Go to www.hp.com/go/tools and choose Printer Install Wizard

This should help you installing the driver for your printer.

Tried the solution that you posted. Rebooted. Still when I open the HP Solution Center and click on Scan Picture, the only thing I get is the Windows 7 "chasing clockwise circle and ultimately a message that the scanner did not work. Frustrated.

When you installed the printer after the windows 7 install / upgrade did you download from the web or install from the original cd?

Installed from the web. I have been to the hp site to update the driver for the printer. I do still have the cd that came with the printer originally.

How is the printer connected to the PC?  USB or Network.

If USB, try uninstalling all the HP software and just plug the USB cable into the printer, The OS has in built drivers for this device.  You should then be able to do a simple scan from MSPaint or Windows Image and Fax.

If the unit is on the network then you have to have the HP software installed to get the scan to work.

Did you try the Scan Diagnostics from  the www.hp.com/go/tools?

Usb connection. Did use the scan diagnostics but it said all was in order. Scanner went through motions it usually does as it scans.

Have you tried Scanning from Paint or Windows Fax and Image?

No I haven't. Willing to try that but would be frustrated if I can't use the Solution Center to scan from since I am already comfortable with that program. I am trying currently the suggestion of removing the printer and all of the associated HP software and then letting the machine autodetect and load drivers and software and see if that fixes. When it reloaded the software it gave a message that there was an issue with an Interactive Services program. Here is the Program path that it said there was an issue with:  c:\users\sbranch\appdata\local\temp\7zs2bdb\hpzstub.exe  Don't know if that gives you any clue at all. I'll let you know if the reinstall works and if it doesn't I will try to scan from Windows programs you mentioned. Thanks for continuing to try to help with this issue.

I was able to scan by opening the printer itself and selecting the Scan Option. When the software was automatically downloaded it did not download the HP Solution Center which was what I was used to using to scan. I can make this work.
