hp deskjet f4400 scanning error message

Whenever I attempt to scan I receive the following message:

The value specified in the Source Size field is invalid. Specify a value between 0 and 30000 and try the scan again.

 

I usually scan using Mac's Image Capture application, but it has not worked with any application.

 

I am running Mac OSX 10.6.7.  This problem existed since I connected this scanner last year, using previous OSX versions.
