my hp officejet pro 8500a will not make copies or print faxes

I have a hp officejet pro 8500a.  If I want it to print faxes or make copies I have to restart it each time.  when I do restart it I always get the'checking printer this make take a few minutes' message.  then it will print  and make copies.

 

this is a business printer so we can't afford to have to restart it every time we get a fax.

It sounds like your having a problem with the sleep mode.  There is a firmware update that says it will fix the problem.  I would start there if I were you.  You can get instruction to update the firmware here.  Let me know what happens.
