officejet 6500a+ receive a fax through a phone line that has a voice message service? [ Edited ]

we can send, but not (automatically) receive faxes.  

we bought this all in one for the office, and there's nothing on the box that lists any such limitation.  But the instructions seem to imply that this (sharing a phone line) may be the problem.  how were we supposed to know?  

Is there any updates, downloads, etc. we can try?

we have a macbook pro.

Yes , if you have a phone with the voice message service then there will be a problme in receiving fax.

First check what is the rings to answer in the fax machine. then also check the after how many rings it goes to the voice mail.

Make the rings to answer less than the voice mail. then you will receive the fax but the voice mail servic will not work.

Voice mail is the service provided by the telephone company and it stop all call after certain rings..

The best possible option is to get an telephone answering machine so that both fax and you message service can work..
