officejet 7310 wont fax or scan [ Edited ]

i have an officejet 7310 with an XP machine.  I think I downloaded the drivers completely but am not sure. how can you tell?  also, it copies but won't fax or scan?  what can be wrong?

I am going to take a guess on this but my guess is that the drivers were not downloaded or installed correctly or were not the correct drivers.  I have provided or am providing four web links here depending on which OfficeJet 7310 unit you have and whether you have Windows Xp or XP x64.  I would uninstall whatever you have on your computer for HP now and then make sure all its files and folders have been deleted and then run a registry cleaner (included with your security software, of free such as CCCleaner, Comodo System Cleaner, etc.) to get rid of any other HP left over registry entries after the uninstall.  Then reboot, run the registry cleaner again, then install the software appropriate for your computer and printer from one of the liks below - (a good internet connection is crucial for HP dowlonads as they are typically very large files) -

 Wayne Here is what i am going to do, per your instructions but I need one thing clarified. When I click on my hp link it tells me there are 2 drivers, a huge one and a smaller one, which do I use?  Reason I ask is I have dial up and have to go to the library to download this larger driver if I need the big one. The link is the first one you listed.  Here is my plan:

Uninstall my printer driver by uninstalling the printer

use the CCleaner

Reboot

use the CCleaner again

use the link  you tell me to download the driver.

Please advise the driver when  you get this as for me its a trip into town!  i think I am going to just go and install the big guy but tell me please!

Sue - Not sure if you have already proceeded or not but here is my take on it. 

I have loaded the less cumbersome software with HP before (ie deleting the shpping part, and other stuff) but found that it also provided limited functionality.  So in my opinion it is better to, if your computer has room for it, load the full HP software which is the larger file and then after the fact disable the annoying shopping part of it and other items you may not want that randomly pop up. 

Make sure since you have to do the trip into town to skip the library and find a pub that has free internet.  Since HP files take a long time to download (you'll have to install back home with your printer) at least you can have a beer or a glass of wine while waiting!

I did go to town as that download would have taken me a day! Anyway, it didn't help. When I try to scan or fax it tells me that I don't have the software to support it. I only did the really huge file, do I need to do the 2nd one that is smaller too?
