I have a MAC running Lion ( 10.7 ) I just purchased a Officejet 8600 Printer and I want to use the " SCAN to File " ( direct from the printers Menu ).
HP is telling me this does not work on a MAC ... Is that correct ?? does anyone have it running ??

Hi,
The Scan to Computer feature do work with Mac OS.
Make sure to install the latest Full Feature Software for your OS from HP and not the original CD which does not compatible with Lion.
Make sure to select HP Recommended Software during the installation.

Once completing the isntallation, make sure to install any available HP Update by clicking the Apple icon and then About This Mac.
If you reffer to the Scan to a network folder feature, the\ feature currently not supported by Lion due to OS issue.

Hi joecat,
A new FW update is available for the OJ Pro 8600 since today that fixes the issue with Scan to network folder in Mac OS 10.7 Lion.
The FW update can be downloaded and installed from the front panel display (Web Services - Settings - Printer Update - Check for update now).

I already downloaded that software when I bought the Printer well over a month ago, , , Unless I'm doing something wron it still does not work ... all I simply want to do is scan using the ICON on the printers display, and have the scanned document go directly to a file on my MAC ... it does not work ..
I may be doing something wrong, but everyone tells me it does not work die to my MAC ..
Thanks
Joecat

Hello everyone.. this may be a really retarded question.. I'm sure it is, but when I go to scan picuture, I receive either this message, "To view this page, you must log in to area “admin” on 192.168.1.121:443.", or this one, "To view this page, you must log in to area “admin” on hp65c261.local.:443." What the heck to I type in the user and password fields?
Thanks so much!

I have installed my printer on my macbook, and it has worked ok. But, affter I have installed the eStorage using "Box", now I can't scan to my computer. When I try, it only scans a little part of the image. I have tried many options, with no sucess.
I have also discovered that the scanner works well when I use HP Printer Control on iPhone.
What can I do to fix this?

Here's a key discovery that led to my being able to scan from the HP-8600 to my MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion OSX 10.8...
1) Open the Network System Preferences and click the "Advanced..." button in the lower right.
2) Select the WINS tab at the top of the dialog box.
3) The key to your salvation is listed as the NetBIOS name. Use this as your computer's address. It actually will direct files to your home directory.
For example, if your NetBIOS name is "MACBOOKPRO-B295," put a directory called "Scans" into your home directory and use this as your destination address in your HP-8600 setup: \\MACBOOKPRO-B295\Scans
Below is an illustration. (Don't forget to use the Sharing Systems Preferences, enable File Sharing, and define your Scans folder as a shared folder to "Read and Write" for 'Everyone.' Otherwise, I'm coming over there and it'll get ugly!)
Hope that helps!
George

Thanks. Yes, George, it works, BUT ...
The actual WINS name to use is the one SHADED NEXT TO the NetBIOS name ... as it turns out they are not necessarily the same, so check in your machine.
