psc 1215 all-in-one scan problem

I'm writing on behalf of my old neighbour whom I have promised to do my best in solving this issue but I'm starting to be desperate. She has psc 1215 all-in-one connected to a laptop with windows xp. Everything worked fine until we changed the color toner. It used to be #28 and the new one is #57, I thought it would be ok, since it says so on the printer. After changing the toner the scanning operation of the machine has started to work very strangely, even in black and white. It usually scans and prints only the upper part of the document, although not always stopping at the same spot. After this it rolls out the paper and shows "E" and the warning light about the toner is on. After the front panel is opened and closed again, these alarms are reset. A couple of times I have managed to scan and print the whole page when setting the print option to "fit to page". this does not always work and the scanned pictures are resized which is not always a good thing. The printing operation on this machine is working fine.
