"Scan Cancelled" - can't complete scans on my Officejet 4500

Hi all -

 

First post here - thanks in advance for your help.

 

I am running Windows 7 64-bit on an HP desktop, and have connected an HP Officejet 4500 Wireless all-in-one. It prints fine, but recently has decided not to scan - giving me an error message, "Scan Cancelled" on the LCD readout, and stopping in the middle of scanning. 

 

Steps I have taken:

  1. Unplug, wait, replug
  2. Restart computer
  3. 1+2 together
  4. Uninstall drivers, reinstall them
  5. Uninstall all HP printer-related software and reinstall
  6. Scan from Solution Center instead of pressing button on all-in-one
  7. Bang head against desk

None of these made the system work, so I'm assuming that it's a hardware issue rather than a software issue. Please help! I don't want to have to take everything to Kinko's just to scan it!

Can you make a standalone copy from the printer control panel?

 

Run the following utility.
