scan not closing after importing on c4580 printer

when scanner imports picture it freezes after importing it correctly. i have to restart computer to get it off my task bar.  I have downloaded and run utilities nothing has worked. I do not have my disk so i cannot remove all software. i also have this problem on my HP laptop. HELP!!!
