scan to email failure in HP OfficeJet Pro L7680 All In One

I just updated my drivers from XP pro to Windows 7 Pro 64 bit on my HP officejet Pro L7680 and I can't get my scanned document to load in to my email.  It used to load to Outlook in Windows XP and I could choose the recipient from my address book.  Now, when I put my own email address in there, it doesn't sent it to me.  Help..Please and Thanks!

A few questions before we start.

Have you gone through the setup process for scan to email on the computer again?

Do you get any error messages when you try to scan to email?

Do you have Outlook still?

Re: scan to email failure in HP OfficeJet Pro L7680 All In One

Hi and thanks for your reply.  This printer operates completely differently in Windows 7 then it did in XP, and I can't figure out how to scan to email.  In the old XP system, I would load the HP solutions and hit scan document.  It would scan my document, save it to a PDF, and place it as an attachment to an outgoing message generated from Outlook.  Then I could open the PDF and use my Nortel fax software to fax it since I don't have a regular phone, just an VOIP phone.

So if you could provide some further clarification and instrcutions on the scan to email set-up based on the old way I used to do this (HP places PDF as attachment in to email in Outlook), it would be appreciated.

Thanks!  Al

For what you're wanting to do you don't have to use scan to email.  You can just scan the document to a PDF and save it to your computer.  Then you just have to fax the file using the Nortel fax software.  You can find the instructions for scaning to the computer here.  To get scan to email working certain things and information are required.  First you have to have the HP software installed on the computer and have Outlook installed.  Next you need information from your Email Service Provider (ESP).  You need the SMTP server information, the correct ports to use, and any account information the program asks for.  Once you have all that then we can start with the scan to email setup, but you shouldn't need it, unless you just want it.

Hi, I've tried just scanning to PDF to my desktop and that doesn't work either.  It scans the doc but doesn't put it on my desktop.  I guess I'm missing something here.  Help!

Thanks, Al

Try what's suggested in this document to fix the save problem.  Let me know what happens.

No, that doesn't work either. I got a message that said based on my drivers this update isn't needed.  I tried scanning again to desktop and it didn't work.  I have to call it quits for the night.  Do you have a service that you could possibly call me or take control of my desktop over the internet to try to fix this?
Thanks, Al

If you would like someone to remote into your computer, you can give tech support a call.  Since the printer is out of warranty, they will have to charge you for support, but they should be able to help.  You can reach them at 1-800-474-6836 in the US and Canada, international users click here.  Let me know what they tell you.

Hi Shane, thanks for your response.  Do you know what the cost of that service is?
Thanks, Allan

Unfortionitally there is no public price list for this service.  Typically it depends on which country you're in, and the plan type you choose.  I haven't been in that department for a while, and I have no clue what they charge now.  Best thing to do is just call tech support and they can give you a better idea of what you will have to pay.
