scanner error

Product is HP Photosmart C4480

Operating system is Snow leopard Mac

Error message when trying to use my scanner that it could not initialize and had trouble communicating with the computer

 

Recently did just update operating system with snow leopard 

 

Have tried to uninstall and then reinstall HP software and then restarted computer and same message comes up. Not sure what to do??? please help. Thank you
