how do I begin scanning on my HP C4385 Photosmart All in One?

Although mine has stopped scanning after years of working fine, this is how it should work (assuming that the software hasn't changed dramatically):

 

Double click on the HP Director icon.  From there, you should be able to click on an icon to scan an image (as a .jpg file) or a document as a .PDF file. In the first draft, you may change the resolution of an image file, crop the image, and improve the contrast.  Then, click on "Accept" and it will perform the actual scan.  It will store it in HP Image Zone, but I always edit and save images in folders in "My Pictures."  I hope this helps.
