round & round in hp's not so merry, nor very supportive, online tech support - which keeps insisting win7 has necessary drivers for all print & scan functions. & yet, again, after repeated uninstall / install niether hp nor microsft locate (allow) drivers to be installed for scan functions. win 7 keeps error reporting failure & the drivers must be located & installed. hp says drivers in os...
near pristine officejet functions complete in xp pro, even vista. any thoughts to overcome hp's resista in providing simple driver for win7 64 tooperate scan, without paying $20 & more for hp telephone scam? no, don't care to "upgrade" to new iteration - 8000 series's tubes have tied themselves, course, could always upgrade, eh?

Hello markobia
The Print driver for your printer is located in Windows 7, however this driver itself doesn't do the scanning. Instead Windows has several built in methods to scan and should be used in conjunction with the provided print driver. If you follow the link below you can see the FAQ for those who need to use the built in Drivers. If you expand the "How do I scan, fax, print, or use a memory card?" you should see the "How do I scan with an in-OS driver?" section. This section will have a few ways you can scan.
