Cracked Screen on tx 1000. Replacement options?

Hello,

I bought my tx 1000 something like 2 years ago now. It is totally out of any warranty period but has not given me any problems whatsoever (though I will be swapping hard drives soon because I have a sixth sense feeling that this one is about to die). At a party on new years I clumsily stepped on my computer, which was in a neoprene sleeve. The next morning I woke up and found the screen was cracked (see pictures). This does not affect the image quality or the actual output on the screen itself; the only thing that is broken is the glass/plastic piece in front of the display.

I was wondering if anyone knows what my options are for repair/replacement. I am very well-versed technically and am confident that I can make the repair myself if spare parts were available. Otherwise I would want to know how much it would cost me to send it in to be fixed. I may just try to pawn this one off as cheaply as I can and get a new tx2 or even that dv3.

Here are pictures of the damage.

Thanks,

-Thomas

Re: Cracked Screen on TX 1000. Replacement options?

I think your best bet is to call support, they will give you an estimate on getting your screen fixed, but you will not really get the exact amount until you send it in and they look at it, then they will call you and tell you how much.
You can then decide if it's worth the repair or if the money is better spent on a new Notebook

Of course you say you can still use it anyway, and even without the internal display you could hook it up to an external monitor, so it has some worth.

You can also just look at how much new ones are now anyway, I think the new TX series is probably cheaper than when you bought your model new.

There are also those new cheap Netbooks as well.

Used to be I could build computers cheaper than buying new ones, but not any more these days.

Happy shopping & good luck.

Re: Cracked Screen on tx 1000. Replacement options?

I have the same issue. Mine (Tm2-2050US) is just over 90 days old and was a refurb unit. It just so happens that the 90 day warrenty expired 6 days ago!! Everything else works. Heck even the screen works below the broken area.

I am trying to find a pn just for the digitizer so I can attempt to replace it.

Anyone have any help with a number? I found one in a maint manual but it appears to be the whole display. I am just looking for the digitizer glass.

Thanks in advance.
