Hi; I'd like to fix this problem myself: the machine is out of warranty, and HP quoted me $600 just to LOOK at it (when a more powerful replacement is only $750, why would I ever do business with HP again? Well, simple answer: I won't!)
Note that this USED to occur only when the machine booted from cold, but now it happens all the time, rendering the machine useless.
When the machine is plugged in to a monitor, the monitor display is fine. Since it is a portable touch-screen tablet, and I don't need yet another docked / desktop computer, I'd like this screen to be working as a touchscreen / development computer.
Can anyone state with some authority that this problem is caused by the Motherboard or by the Video Card or by the Screen itself: I will find an aftermarket part SOMEWHERE I hope, but I need to confirm that it's the screen. Anyone else experienced this?

bump.... anyone? Is there a way to have this machine fixed for less than the replacement cost? It's a shame to just throw the entire machine away.

Hello,
I have a tx2-1375dx (AMD with ATI Radeon video chip). When cold it starts with screen rubbish as shown below in the sequence.
After warming up the back of the display with a hair dryer, not too much, only that it feels warm inside, the tx2 starts just fine and remains fine until it may get cold again, which I correct with applying the hair dryer. Sometimes the video driver will correct itself and not loosing any of my work.
But you cannot really teach with something doing this in the middle of the class. So for my desk work I still use the tx2, both in tablet and notebook, but I got for me a Dell Inspiron Duo just to teach, it only cost me $500 and had Win7 Home Premium which allowed me to run my lectures.
I guess I will have to order the motherboard to keep avoiding this. And do it before the contractor stops making the motherboard and the display module.
Cheers!

I have the same exact problem--screen looks just like your pictures. HP stated that the problem is not their fault because they do not make the product that is failing. I"m not paying $400 for HP to fix the motherboard and the video chip for it to fail four months from now because the computer runs to hot and screws up the hardware. I say class action lawsuit--everyone needs to let HP know that this problem is theirs to fix unless they want to lose valuable customers.

I have a simpler answer... I'll never buy another HP computer again, and I advise all my friends and family whom rely on me for technology advice to buy Dell. I don't say "don't buy HP", but when someone says "what about this HP" I say "HP's have quality issues" and tell my story about my Tx2z and how they quoted me $600 just to DIAGNOSE the problem, and that scares 'em off instantly and permanently.
