Re: Familiar Story - tx2000 - lights and fan on, but black screen at boot up

So, my TX2000 lost its screen a month or so ago... it was a gradually getting worse (but fast), then one day it just went black.
I too, am a few months past warranty.

Question is... will they still fix the problem of the black screen?
Anyone?

Re: Familiar Story - tx2000 - lights and fan on, but black screen at boot up

My tx2000 went out in July.  It went through the usual process - wifi started dropping more and more frequently, then the whole thing just died.  I had owned it and enjoyed it for 16 months.  Fortunately ... I have a two year warranty.  Unfortunately, it was taken in, fixed and returned to me and recently started dropping the wifi again. 9.9  I contact HP about it and really, the best thing everyone CAN do is contact HP about the problem directly.  I spoke with someone directly.

I'm very upset about all this ... my warranty is up in April. :smileysad:

I'm even more upset finding out that the most recent versions of the tx2 line ... have the same problem.  It has not been fixed. :smileysad:

I have four HPs in my house, one of which is a 6 year old Pavillion notebook... which still runs fine and hah.. it's going to be sooo funny ... if I have to go back to using it because my two year old tablet just won't LIVE.  (Well.. it'll live.  All I have to do is have the motherboard resoldered. 9.9  Not happy, HP.  I will not be buying another one (and my plan WAS to buy a new one every three years).

Re: Familiar Story - tx2000 - lights and fan on, but black screen at boot up

All I can say is: THANK GOD FOR AMERICAN EXPRESS EXTENDED WARRANTY.

My laptop no longer had a display anymore and I was about to cut my losses when I remembered about Amex's extended warranty plan. If you purchase the laptop with their card, they will cover the laptop for up to an additional year. I was closing in on two years, so I sent my laptop in, paid for the repair and Amex refunded me as promised.

It's repaired and functional now, but I'm not taking any chances. I'm selling off the TX right away. I got a decent two years out of it and it's about time for me to upgrade again anyway.

My next laptop will DEFINITELY NOT be an HP.

Re: Familiar Story - tx2000 - lights and fan on, but black screen at boot up

i bought my tx1000 on may2008 in japan.and now ,after not using it for one week, when I turned it on, only black screen appeared. i tried unplugging the memory and hdd, but nothing happened. then i tried searching the internet, and to my surprise, it was a main problem most users experienced. i haven' contacted Hp yet, because im searching for a solution. anyone can point me at the right direction? what should i do first?

Re: Familiar Story - tx2000 - lights and fan on, but black screen at boot up

[ Edited ]

Dear HP,

So, I too will add my list to the names of the hundreds of others with the TX1000 black screen.

Called HP CS and they tried the pull the battery, kill power, drain trick.. No go...  Out of warranty by 400 days.  So it would be $50 to troubleshoot, and about $400 to replace the MB.

This is clearly a known defect which HP refuses to address [text deleted]

IF THERE IS NO RESOLUTION, I TOO WILL NOT PURCHASE ANOTHER HP PRODUCT.

for now I will try the youtube repair method.

Very Sincerely,

ME

Re: Familiar Story - tx2000 - lights and fan on, but black screen at boot up

Well, Im back for another post, since you can not threaten HP with suit in public.  My bad...

Anyway, my TX 1000 is having the same problem.  I am past my warranty peroid and it is a $450+ repair through HP, which I am sure they will just replace the MB, and I'll have the same problem again.

So with the TX1000 known issues are the Wifi Card going out, and the Overheating Nvidia chip.   The overheating chip results in catistrophic failure of the system.

Guess I'll try the online fix offered on a video site, and never buy another HP product again.

Re: Familiar Story - tx2000 - lights and fan on, but black screen at boot up

Great post, so you and I know they are 'slanted" .. Ok, enough about the walmart girl, I had a belkin cooling pad under my tx1000 since day one and it took a dump at about 8 months, HP said they put a NEW MFing mother board and wifi and it

worked for about 6 months and I got the "black screen-demon" and after many contacts I could only get "Sorry" over and

over, so I did the hair dryer fix on mine and my daughters dv9000 .. so now my wife uses it so it has as very low load on it,

and I bought a new Dell Studio and love it, I also have a Belkin cooling pad under it, which reminds me I need to call them

because it sounds like a turbo-prop with one propeller that has a dead bird on it. Since the first "sorry" I have not spent a cent

on any HP product, and just to relieve some stress I took my HP printer out and put a .45 into it and bought a Espon, and

my only regret is that I didn't call out the local TV on your side guy to film it...

AnyWho, Good Luck with your NOTEBOOK.

Re: Familiar Story - tx2000 - lights and fan on, but black screen at boot up

I just got finished with the TX1000 repair on youtube.  All my friends laughed at me but it worked!!!  Not only did it work, it fixed the network card not working.

Some things to be aware of.  Be carefull on disassembling the keboard tape connection and the pad tape connecting, as the tabs are delecate.  This was the biggest pain on assembly.

I used a heatgun for about 1 min at 600 degrees (low setting) probabaly over did it, but everything is up and running now.

Sure beats sending it to HP to fix for 450 bucks!!!  I think I would charge about the same to fix someone elses computer as it is a few hours of work, however since it was my computer with my data, it was worth the satisfaction of not dealing with HP.

Clearly a design flaw with not allowing the computer to cool properly.

I love the 1 Cent Fix!!!! LOL...

Re: Familiar Story - tx2000 - lights and fan on, but black screen at boot up

In an earlier post I advised against using a heat gun because high temperatures will denature the glue resin that is used to hold the GPU die to the motherboard.

Would you mind posting the GPU temperature that you're getting after the fix?
