Hi all,
I just got a brand new HP Tx2z that my friend bought for me from USA, since I live in Indonesia and there is no way I am calling HP support center, I tried the online chat and failed everytime.. so I am asking you guys for help..
1. What does CTO means in HP TouchSmart tx2z-1000 CTO Notebook PC ?
2. Does it REALLY don't have bluetooth built-in? Tried the software installation and it says that there is no bluetooth devices detected..
I didn't pay enough attention when I told my friend to buy from ebay, I just thought that all new notebooks should have bluetooth built-in already..
thanks..

No, the tx2z-1000 has no option for an internal Bluetooth. I installed a Kensington adapter I had on my laptop ... works great. You can get BT adapters that aren't much bigger than the USB plug, so they can remain plugged in and don't get in the way. The only downside is that the Bluetooth adapter consumes one of the computer's three USB ports.
CTO => Configured To Order (I didn't know myself until I saw your question and looked it up!)
Hope this helps! I've had my tx2z for almost a month now and have found it to be exactly what I was looking for ...

The previous poster is almost right, CTO does stand for Configure to Order, but you could have ordered BT, the option comes when you choose the type of WLAN card you want, you would have had to have upgraded to the N card with Bluetooth, which would have cost another $50.00
Your only option now is as the previous poster said is to buy an external BT device.
I posted a configuration list I made on the HP site below for reference.

Yes, that is correct ... my apologies ... don't know why the slam from the HP employee was needed, but yes had you ordered directly from HP you could have gotten BT.
I too bought my computer from eBay, and at the time I was looking the only form of Bluetooth available was if the seller included a USB BT adapter. Given that the original poster already has a computer sans BT, buying an adapter is likely to be their only option. The good news is that the adapter should be a fraction of the $50 HP seems to believe Bluetooth functionality is worth.
I agree with the original poster that it should be reasonable to expect a laptop like the tx2z would come with Bluetooth as a standard feature.

I did a bit of digging and found that the P/N for the internal bluetooth is 483113-001. I found that this part is available on eBay as well as directly from HP. The info I have gives no indication of whether or not this is something that could be easily done by someone familiar with working on PCs or whether or not installing it would void the warranty (I suspect it might). I may order one for the heck of it ... even from HP it is less than the $50 quoted for adding the option on a new build.
Might be worthwhile to help free up a USB port ...

Yes, you can install the 32 bit version of Vista on this laptop with no problem. But there is really no need if the laptop came with the 64 bit version. Almost all 32 bit programs will run on a 64 bit operating system.
On my tx2-1000CTO, I am running the 64 bit version of the Windows 7 RC, and I have all of my normal programs installed and working great, including the Windows 7 XP Mode in the Windows Virtual PC.
Hope this info helps
David

Hi,
I am grabbing this thread up again.
I am owner of a touchsmart tx2 that also ships without BT. I dont know difference to tx2z
I want internal bluetooth. Have some sticks laying around but am not satisfied with it.
To upgrade my laptop do I need to upgrade the wlan card against a wlan card tha also include BT.
Can someone point me to exact model number?
I have seen that ther are internal bluetooth modules available like BCM92035 for hp compaq. Is there possibility to include them beside existing Wlan?
Best Regards,
Gunnar
