Hi,
it says: "Synaptics Zeigegerät - v. 15.0.13 18Mar10".
("Zeigegerät" = German for "pointing device")
Thank you for your reply!
Greetings,
Felix Freiberger

Hi,
both drivers did not change the behaviour: I still can deactivate the touchpad, but it reactivates itself after a few seconds.
Still, I believe that a HP process is the culprit, as the touchpad is properly disabled when the Tablet PC is closed - and the touchpad driver shouldn't even notice that.
Thank you for your help,
Felix Freiberger

Hi,
my P/N is VY576EA#ABD (it's a tm2-1090eg). My BIOS is F.06 (03/19/2010, manually updated to that one).
The Intel Chipset driver said that it had successfully installed, but as the process took less than half a second, I am quite sure it did nothing.
Thank you for your help,
Felix Freiberger

I had the same problem after my driver was updated. I fixed it by rolling back the driver using Device Manager (from 15.0.17.4 if I remember correctly) to 14.0.14.0. I have the touchsmart tm2.

I had an HP TouchSmart tm2-1070us and the TouchPad would turn off and on by double-tapping the TouchPad off indicator like it was suppose to. I then updated the TouchPad driver as recommended by the HP Support Assistant program. With the TouchPad turned on, I would quickly double-tap the TouchPad off indicator and the TouchPad zone would turn off for a second but then immediately become active again without double-tapping the TouchPad indicator. So the problem probably has to do with the update rather than the computer itself. I recently upgraded to an HP TouchSmart tm2-2150us and the TouchPad is working as expected. But the HP Support Assistant recommended that I install the Synaptics TouchPad Driver update. I currently have Synaptics driver version 15.0.17.4 with driver date 5/27/2010. I am sure that the update is nice to have but I do not want to create the same problem with the TouchPad off indicator. The factory installed TouchPad is working fine and I have decided not to install the update. I recommend that people NOT install the update until Hewlett-Packard (HP) fixes this problem. I don't think that HP has addressed this issue yet but hopefully they will in the future. HP, if you are listening, please fix this issue with your update. Thank you.

This is the way I got over the problem on my pavilion dv7 to disable the touch pad on Windows 7
- go to Control Panel
- Select Hardware and Sound
- Under Devices and Printers click MOUSE
- A MOUSE PROPERTIES window will appear
- click the "Device Settings" tab
- Below the Devices window is a checkbox labelled "Disable internal pointing device when external USB pointing device is attached"
- Check this box, then Apply & OK
- This could solve your problem

nascar4u wrote:you could try opening MSCONFIG and going to the STARTUP tab at the top, then uncheck the synaptics pointing device and that should keep the thing from loading.
Thanks so much for the MSCONFIG tip. I have a G72 notebook running Windows 7 and don't have the features people described in other posts. I ended up uninstalling (scary but effective).
MSCONFIG
TOOLS
COMPUTER MANAGEMENT
LAUNCH
DEVICE MANAGER
MICE & OTHER POINTING DEVICES
Right-click ON PS/2 COMPATIBLE MOUSE
UNINSTALL
Looking forward to typing without my cursor flying off into the air. Thanks again.
Later that night...
OMG It doesn't stick! Stayed off after reboot but came back after shutdown!
Still later that night...
Well it seems my driver must have updated when I restarted my computer because now I see the disable option:
START
CONTROL PANEL
DEVICE MANAGER
MICE AND OTHER POINTING DEVICES
Right-click on PS/2 COMPATIBLE MOUSE
DISABLE
Yay!!!!
Please click KUDOS button if this helps you out. - thanks
