Hey guys!
I have a completley different problem.
Computer HP Probook 4310s
OS Windows Vista
Here is the deal! My touchpad stoped working after upgrades in Vista instaled.
Control Panel / Mouse / Device settings ... well here is the big problem ... there is NOTHING I could pick in this subwindow!
Have tried:
- new drivers
- unistaling and reinstaling drivers
- disable/enable in bios
- crazy forum ideas about unpluging the main batery for 5 mins to start it to work ... ![]()
HEEEEEELLPPPP ![]()
Thanks!
Cheers!
M.

Finally, a suggestion that works! Thanks!!
I found that I had to do both - unistall the driver and then disable the hardware. I uninstalled using device manager in clontorl panel, let the computer restart, then disabled via the device manager.

I have the same problem. My touchpad is not set to load at windows start up. I've disabled all the synaptics software I can find. I turn it off from the windows -- mouse-- disable touchpad. And the d*&^'ed thing turns itself back on. This is freaking annoying and, since the touchpad is so sensitive, it messes up whatever I'm trying to type if my sleeve brushes it. I had 7 hours of work that had to be redone because the stupid touchpad won't stay turned off and it messed up a database I was working on by skipping around the curser. This is a SERIOUS flaw. I want to be able to permanantly disable the touchpad. FOREVER. They are pretty useless anyway as its impossible to drag and drop data with them.

I finally got this done by following the suggestions of a previous poster. I cannot remember the posting, so I am repeating the steps here. It takes two steps as follows:
1. Open Control Panel
Select Device Manager
Select PS/2 Compatible Mouse
Select the Driver Tab
Click on Uninstall
Follow all of the instructions to uninstall (I cannot remember them)
Close all windows and power down the computer
2. Turn the computer back on
Open Control Panel
Select Device Manager
Select PS/2 Compatible Mouse
Click on Disable Device (Or whatever the button label is - I cannot remember)
Close all windows
I'm not sure if I had to power down a second time, but do it just in case.
These have to be done in this order. I reenabled the touchpad and tried them in reverse order - this did not shut down the touchpad.
This worked with my 2+ year old laptop running Vista. Good luck!!
