*KEYBOARD PROBLEMS* - TouchSmart tx2z-1000 CTO Notebook

I'm a first-time HP customer and I've had my laptop for just over 2 months now.  It was working fine until 3 or so weeks ago when the keyboard started acting up.

The following keys no longer work:

  • "Esc"
  • " ~ "
  • "Tab"
  • "Caps Lock"
  • " F1"
  • "1"
  • "Q"
  • "A"
  • "Z"

As you might have noticed, they're all on the left side of the keyboard.  I can only access these keys now when I open the on-screen keyboard.  It gets very difficult/irritating when you're trying to type something long.

At first, they would work on and off:

  1. I used to have to press the key I wanted to use really fast for a couple seconds and it'd "wake" back up.
  2. Then when that failed, I had to do the same thing only alternate with a working key really fast for a couple seconds before it'd "wake" back up.
  3. Now they've gone kaput completely.

I'm hoping there's a solution for this that I can do on my own because I need this computer to use for college!!

Someone please help me!

Re: *KEYBOARD PROBLEMS* - TouchSmart tx2z-1000 CTO Notebook

My TX2 series was shipped to me brand new with a defective keyboard. I had to send it back to have it replaced. Apparently it's not an unheard of issue with this model. I'd suggest calling up the support folks and explain the problem. I'm guessing they'll arrange to have the unit picked up for repair as they did in my case.  It was hell for 10 days waiting to get it back, but haven't had any trouble since then with the keyboard so I guess it all ended ok.
