Re: TX 1000 series (TX1410US) WILL NOT BOOT

I am having the same problem and was able to get mine started. I was shocked but it worked.

1. I turned on the laptop. As usual I had the black screen, lights on and nothing else, no bios boot, nothing.

2. I placed the laptop still running in a backpack for about 30min

3. Removed it from the bag and held the power key for about 5 seconds to turn it off.

4. Tried turning it on and it started.

I found this process on one of the many many many sites posting this same problem. For some reason when the system gets hot enough it will start up.

When will HP fix this problem. COME ON HP!!! AREN'T YOU LISTENING.

Re: TX 1000 series (TX1410US) WILL NOT BOOT

Its definatly a defect, however HP and the GPU manufacturer will never own up to the issue. Eventually your computer will completly fail due to overheating of the GPU. First indications are the bluetooth/wifi shutting down, that will progress into un explained shut down/reboots until it will not power up. I had to get my mother board replaced. Motherboard was purchased thru HP. It still overheats and shuts down if I over work the CPU and GPU which you can feel as the lower case and fan discharge start to get hot. This is even with the power managment via windows restricting the CPU from operating above 75-80%. Above that the thing will overheat in a matter of minutes and shut down. If I let my virus software run a scan of the hard drive it will overheat and shut down. Worst purchase I've ever made.

Re: TX 1000 series (TX1410US) WILL NOT BOOT

right now , when i close my lid, i gently twist it before opening the lid. i think hp has a sensor mechanism in lid closing. if you happen to put any weight on ur lappie , it could get damaged.  very stupid design but that is hp. try disabling the power options on lid closure do nothing. i havent tried it yet. i havent tried rolling back the nvidia driver yet too.  i am going to do a reinstall, then roll back the bios to prior version.

Re: TX 1000 series (TX1410US) WILL NOT BOOT

Just for the record - my tx1000 had a wifi problem when it was about 1 yr old.  HP fixed it under warranty, but then their 'fix' eventually crashed everything, which I then had to fight to get fixed out of warranty.

Now the computer is about 2 years old and is having this black-screen booting problem.

Re: TX 1000 series (TX1410US) WILL NOT BOOT

In response to your post as well as most others. One of the main reasons that HP has managed to escape any liability is the fact that almost every owner post/reports that they have issues with their wifi. You can replace your wifi all you want but it is not the problem. Everyone needs to realize that and stop posting and reporting wifi issues. Its a big distraction/out for the real issue.

THE GPU HAS A MAJOR MANUFACTURING DEFECT. THERE IS NO CURE AS REPLACING THE MOTHERBOARD WILL ONLY LEAD TO THE SAME ISSUE AS ALL THE MOTHERBOARDS HAVE THE SAME GPU. YOU CAN'T CHANGE THE GPU DUE TO THE WAY IT WAS MANUFACTURED. ALL THE MOTHERBOARDS THAT WERE MADE FOR THIS LINE OF COMPUTERES WERE MADE YEARS AGO AND THAT LINE WAS SHUT DOWN BEFORE THE COMPUTERS WERE MANUFACTURED. SO ALL THE REPLACMENT MOTHERBOADS WILL HAVE THE SAME GPU AND SAME ISSUE.

I have already purchased a replacment motherboard and have the same issue. The only way to preserve your computer is by running it at a power saving mode to reduce the CPU and GPU loading which will reduce the heat build up.

Sorry to burst anyones bubble but the only thing HP could do is replace our computers with new computers of a different model (with a different GPU) which will never happen. If it did who's to say we wouldn't end up with another great (ha ha ha) lemon product from ??.

Re: TX 1000 series (TX1410US) WILL NOT BOOT

I don't know if the TX1000 problem is the same problem many people are dealing with on the TX2000, but the symptoms sound the same.  On my end I've solved the problem without any hardware fixes.  It surprisingly might be related to video drivers and their involvement with power management hibernation/sleep.  See my reply to this post for more information http://h30434.www3.hp.com/psg/board/message?board.id=Tablet&thread.id=451

Re: TX 1000 series (TX1410US) WILL NOT BOOT

I think your luck that your problem was in video driver, mine even i remove the Hard disk nothing will display, it will just on all lighs, but something it will start smoothly after i shut off again it will take many times to off and on then strart again.

Re: TX 1000 series (TX1410US) WILL NOT BOOT

If sometimes it starts smoothly, but sometimes it won't restart with just lights this is a good description of the problem I was seeing.

Try only doing a full shut down.  Do not use standby or hibernate.  Then see if you continue to see the problem.  If you don't, as I did, the problem is the video driver.

My computer has been working for weeks now.  To test I reinstalled the latest video driver available on windows update.  First time I tried shutting down with hibernate I had trouble restarting it.  Rolling back the driver once again seems to have fixed the problem.

I'm positive the latest driver recommended by windows update causes major issues with hibernate and stand by.  I'm also sure that many people install windows updates to keep up to date... which would cause mass problems at all roughly the same time.. which is what we're seeing, for the most part, on these boards.

It's the few people with heat issues and defective hardware that are making this situation difficult to problem solve.  People seem to be talking as if magically using your computer for about a year will cause machines simultaneously around the world to shut down.. magic dust or HP warranty conspiracy...

Although I am a bit surprised that no HP representative has made any useful comment here or on the support pages for this model.
