As almost all (I believe) TX 1000 users (mine TX1221au) face the same problem.

And HP refuse to own up to these manufacturing defect liability.

PLease sign partition on link below and never buy another HP Product again.

And spread the work around.

Re: TX 1000 series (TX1410US) WILL NOT BOOT

Dear non believers,

There is no simple fix to the GPU issue. If you have a TX series computer it shares the same motherboard/gpu combo as the DV series which have been recalled. The failure is related to heat build up which causes the GPU's solider to break down resulting in failure. Failure can be intermittent in its initial stages as computer shutdown (commanded or not) allows these solider joints and GPU to cool and regain contact. However do to the cycling process COMPLETE FAILURE IS INEVITABLE.

BTW the solider process used is a relatively new process to meet EPA/GOV regulations. It uses solider that (if I recall correctly) has no lead which is an inferior material for this process.

Good Luck

See Ya Soon

Re: TX 1000 series (TX1410US) WILL NOT BOOT

Hi All,

I had the exact same problem when turning on my tx1001au, the lights would go on fans would spin, but no screen activity.

This might sound crazy, no need to open up laptop, just follow directions below WORKED for ME. Its now been working for over a week with no problems, but i have purchased a targus laptop cooler fan to keep my lappie cool.

take out hard disk drive. So as not to damage it from the exess heat buildup.

turn on laptop,

place in laptop carry bag and zip up to get heat buildup. (i did mine on a cool night so i did this for an hour) half an hour in most cases should be sufficient

take laptop out of carry bag. turn off. press down on the enter key and the \ key which is just above the enter key, with moderate to good pressure. I used 2 fingers for the enter key to add even pressure.

(the reason for this you might ask is that the Fault is to do with the GPU which is the nVidia Graphics chip, by heating up the laptop the solder on the board gets hot. then buy pressing down on the above red labeled keys, which are directly above the GPU, you are basically reseating the GPU back into place.) This has happened on a few different brands of laptop, HP, Apple, Dell etc. so is a know problem with the same model Nvidia GPU's for all these brand laptops.)

Turn on the laptop while pressing down on the above keys. (do this as soon as possible as the computer will start to cool down and you will have to start all over again.)

wait till the fans reduce speed, then turn of the laptop again.

you might have to do this a couple of times for it to work. (i only had to do it once because i left my laptop in my carry bag for an hour to get it realy hot, remember i took out my hdd so as not to damage it)

Then with the laptop turned off again hold down the F12 key turn the laptop on again and wait till the fans spin down again. then start tapping the F12continually for about 10 seconds.

(The above F12 is like a factory reboot/reset sequence .

Then turn the laptop off again.

Turn it back on and if you pressed down just right, then you would have reseated the GPU and your lappie will be working again.

Hope this helps those people out there with TX model laptops

Don't do the laptop-in-a-bag trick above,...it causes heat damage to other parts of the computer.

Re: TX 1000 series (TX1410US) WILL NOT BOOT

I dont know if you guys are all still having this problem but since HP is ignoring all the problems with these machines I figured I would offer. Instead of paying the 400+ dollars out of warranty cost to get this fixed just shoot me an email. I fix these all day long for 80 dollars and it works 98 percent of the time and stays working. Simple fix with the right equipment but Hp refuses to give any help with it.. ugh.. shoot me an email if anyone needs to help with it.  I have fixed about 100 of these so far.

Re: TX 1000 series (TX1410US) WILL NOT BOOT

My TX1000 just started doing the same thing 2 weeks ago.  All I get is the black screen of death when I turn it on.  It just would not boot no matter how many times I turn it on and off.  The lights & fan come on but the screen stays black.   I use to recommend HP to a lot of people but after this experience and reading about this particular problem and how HP is responding I AM NEVER EVER EVER GOING TO RECOMMEND "HP" TO ANYONE OR BUY HP PRODUCTS.

This is very annoying because you pay so much for the TX series and fall in love with it and shortly after it packs up due to manufacuturer problem.  And sadly enough consumers have to deal with that.

This would not be acceptable and HP should not think they would get away with this because I am also going to do whatever I can to make sure they fix this.  IT IS HP's FAULT, NOT THE CONSUMERS FAULT.  They might think they getting away by ignoring but not for too long.  THIS IS AMERICA AND JUSTICE WOULD BE DONE!!!!!!!!

HP SHOULD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AND KNOW ADMIT THAT THEY MADE A MISTAKE WITH THE TX Series Laptops.

I freaking need my computer to work and not keep having problems due to manufacturer defects.
