TX 1000 series (TX1410US) WILL NOT BOOT

[ Edited ]

I have read several post about the KNOWN defect in the TX series computers not booting up (lights and fan come on but nothing else). Some have been lucky in that HP serviced their computer free of charge (w/ an expired warrenty) however I have not been so lucky. Customer support would not do anything for me. After calling twice I was given a number to HP Corperate (650-857-1501) which I will call on monday.<text deleted>

Thanks

Curtis

Re: TX 1000 series (TX1410US) WILL NOT BOOT

[ Edited ]

I have a TX1220ca, and I have the same problem. I have taken out the RAM,reseated it, taken out the hard disk reseated, vacuumed out the vents, etc.

My warranty ran out aug 2008, luckily I got a replacement MB from HP before that happend. I've had no problem till a week ago, when I switch on the machine, the fan, lights etc comes on, but I do NOT get the "hit esc to choose boot,.........".  I can hear the fan speed change, but NO BOOT.

With Trial and error, you can make it BOOT:

with machine power off, press F12 key, keep it down, when you turn on the power. Listen for the fan speed to decrease, then let F12 up, and keep hitting it

till you see the "hit esc to choose boot ....", then just let the machine boot.

If you do not succeed, then turn the machine power off, and repeat the above procedure.

Mine will eventually boot.

So it must be a MB problem. I phoned HP they would not honour an extended warranty, for the replaced MB. I asked how much it would cost to replace the MB, they said ~$400.00. I said I could get a brand new Laptop and a one year warranty for a little more than that.

Also I can still get this machine to boot: Maybe this is a"feature" an anti-theft one.

Not sure why only F12, works.

Hope this helps someone with the same problem.

Tried it several times with no luck.  I have come to the conclusion that I now own a nice door stop. I have purchased my last HP product. My wife ran into a gentleman in Sams Club the other day who was returning one for the same problem. He had already returned one and my wife explained the facts about the defect and he promptly demanded and recieved a full refund.

Re: TX 1000 series (TX1410US) WILL NOT BOOT

It sound like the dreaded nvidia GPU problem. Same problems Dell, HP and Mac have been dealing with. Had a tx1220us laptop come into the shop with the exact same problem your describing, light all coming on, no post, just a bunch of lights and no screen After some investigation found out it's the video chip. Push directly on the video chip and system would post. Short from having the video chip reflowed/soldered (BGA chip, not easy to do) there isn't much you can do. I am typing this post from that exact same laptop, basically with this laptop if you push down on the return and backslash hard enough to put pressure on the board below the keyboard then turn it on it usually works. The video chip is located almost directly under the return key. Good Luck! YMMV

Re: TX 1000 series (TX1410US) WILL NOT BOOT

This may help those that can still boot to their TX1000 Tablets:

Mine is tx1220ca/Vista:

After trying the pressing down the enter/"\" keys on power up (did not work for me), I booted back in with my F12 key

Then I got rid of

(1) HPUpdate (uninstalled it)

(2) Start Control Panel-> System_> Device manager

Go to video -> roll back video driver (mine is now NVIdia : 07/11/2007 ver: 7.15.11.6743)

Then reboot. No more F12 key needed!

Maybe the wifi will work for those with the problem too(?)

Also when using windows update, make sure you do not update nvidia in the optiona llist.

:smileyhappy:

Re: TX 1000 series (TX1410US) WILL NOT BOOT

Minei s worse... HP "customer support" had me go through a bunch of troubleshooting steps, now when I am lucky enough for it to boot, it only recognizes the recovery partition of the HD, thus effectively "hiding" all my original files.  I have an external HD case, but HP has different pins on their HD.  Support has completely stopped replying to my emails.
My HP TX series won't boot and HP won't fix it.

Re: TX 1000 series (TX1410US) WILL NOT BOOT

The HD in the tx notebook, has standard pins, if you remove the hp adapter that is plugged on the pins. Remove the case held on by 4 screws.

The HD should fit in your external 2.5" drive case, and you can off load your files.

Then boot into drive D: and reinstall the base Op sys.

Re: TX 1000 series (TX1410US) WILL NOT BOOT

I have a tx1410us and it does have any problems that you all had. Mine now is just all LEDs come on with a black screen and fan to let me know is not real dead yet??? Mine waranty is over at Jan 09, and start happen just 2 weeks ago. I did chat HP tech and after did all that reseat rams, hard drive, battery in & out, then no F keys are work either. Then finaly if I want to fix, it will be a $400.00; I paid mine close to 1,200 just on Jan 08. Some of my friends told me that I should contact to comsumer affrair with these proplems. If any of you get any real help from HP, please let me know, Thank you.

Re: TX 1000 series (TX1410US) WILL NOT BOOT

Also have the same exact problem (tx1410us), the wifi was the first to go. Now it wont boot at all. Isnt this a product defect??

I mean, if all the units are experiencing the same problem, its a production thing!

Shouldn't HP do an extended warranty service on this?
