I have this same problem as well. Here's what I've been able to discern: (on my tx2500z running either Vista or Win7 64-bit)
1. If I plug in a USB flash drive or my iPod, the system will wait 1 second, then completely freeze. No mouse movement, no key input. Requires hard reset. External USB drive does not seem to cause the problem.
2. This only happens the second time I plug in the device. First time it plugs in, it's fine. If I unplug it and plug it back in, it freezes. After rebooting, the device will work again once, then freeze again on the second use. Time between uses doesn't matter.
3. When it freezes, the device never shows that it was able to connect, meaning the iPod doesn't light up like it does when it connects to the computer.
4. I don't have the problem in Linux. Only in Vista and Win7. So it's got to be something with the USB driver or how flash drives are being unmounted by the driver, I guess.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, as this is the only nagging problem I have on the laptop.

I, too, had this problem... except it's on my TX2Z-1000CTO with Windows 7 Professional (x64).
It only did it for one day but after installing the AMD USB Filter drivers. Check and see if your tablet has similar drivers.

Thank you!!! The AMD USB Filter Driver worked!! I installed it, then tested it repeatedly with both a flash drive and an iPod. No system freezes whatsoever.
Here's the link to the driver that I installed.
