I have a Compaq Presario CQ61 notebook PC. I don't know what on the earth all on a sudden it starts appearing "Serial Number not found" at startup screen. Moreover after logging into my user account a dialogue box appears saying I don't have any genuine operating system. I checked my BIOS infos & got the fields containing serial number, model name & product number are totally empty. I have a genuine operating system of Win 7 provided by HP. It has become very irritating to cope up with these problems. Please give me a solution. I will provide my product number, serial number & other infos if require. Sorry for my poor English. ![]()

my computer. After restarted, on the first screen, one more thing is added, "Serial Num not found " is just under "Press ESC for setup". Also Product
name, serial number are totally wrong in BIOS. . I really don't know what's wrong on earth. Who can help
me?????

I had the same problem and my dv6 1299 repaired in HP!But still sometimes my laptop doesn't recognizes the BIOS, screen flashes with a noise and shutts down!So for me the best solution is not to buy an HP product again!

I have exactly the same problem and CQ61 laptop computer. HP BIOS editor is needed to change serial # etc which appears to be impossible to get. I used WAT remover fix.exe that didn't correct the problem but I believe will prevent future MS problems. Also used RemoveWatermarkX64.exe to remove watermark successfully.
keep getting microsoft security essentials pop up
anyone know where to get an HP bios editor

I think HP is very suspicious company.
4 Months ago, I sent my computer in for repairs, and now i'm having the same problems.
Now when I tried to send it in again for the same problems I had last time, they told me my warranty was out of date. Which is weird because my warranty is good until 12/4/12. When investigating the matter, I was able to see that my serial number was somehow altered. The serial number that I had on my computer before I sent it in, is different than the serial number I have now, after the computer was sent back to me from HP.
I will never purchase from this company again, and I will let my company, clients & friends know about this.
Be Aware everyone
