touchsmart tx2 display problems at start up

When starting the notebook the display lower part becomes unusable. there are two parallel, horizontal white lines across the screen or there are some colors but they are completely "faded" at the lower part of the screen. In both cases, the computer becomes useless since there is no way to tell where the cursor is.After multiple reboots, one ends up at the regular state, but this is random, it usually happens after the computer has been off for a while. To solve the problem when I am in windows I turn off the monitor and turn it back on several times and the screen re-establishes to normal.

Re: touchsmart tx2 display problems at start up

so.....Is it still under warranty? Probably,,, so tell HP, fedex it back & they will fix or give you a new screen or tx2 in replacement for bad hardware

Have you called HP to resolve/at least address this graphics issue? They are there for you :smileyhappy:

Re: touchsmart tx2 display problems at start up

I have emailed HP several times. They told me to do a hard reset, that is, to disconnect  the battery adn turn the switch on for 30 seconds to drain any energy. The porblem persisted then they told me its a hardware porblem.

My laptop is not under warranty anymore because I bought it in another contry. Yet  I still think it might be not a hardware issue because I installed a small freeware utility to turn the screen off whenever I want. SO When I go into windows and the lines are on the screen I just turn the monitor off and on a couple of times and the screen just goes back to normal. That may indicate that the porblem is Bios related.

If you read the forums aanother similar problem happened with the keyboard, lots of people complained until HP had to make a BIOS update F.12 and that solved the porblem. Maybe that is the case now.

I advise yo to report this problem to HP support and tell them that there are several similar complaints in the forum about this same issue. Perhaps someday they study the problem and give a BIOS solution.

Think about it:

- TUrn the screen off and on several times solve the porblem

- Several people complain about the same issue

- the problem is intermitent

so it seems to me that maybe a BIOS problem and HP just does not admit it because of their lazyness to rpogramme another BIOS update.

Re: touchsmart tx2 display problems at start up

I think it's not bios related because It only happens when the computer is off for a while and everything get cold. I think it's a problem with the graphic chipset or something like that. when the computer is warm it never happen even if you reboot your laptop 100 times it will be normal. I will send it back to hp. they must be responsible for theit fault.

I also try the hard reset and inform you about the result.

I  did a hard reset. put my device to get cold and turned it on. the problem didn,t resolved. it recures again.

It's a hardware problem i guess. I'll return it to the dealer and thy will send it  back for guarantee service.

Re: touchsmart tx2 display problems at start up

perhaps it is an ATI-video "catalyst" problem as mine has been gettting verticcal lines upon wakeup from sleep especially if the creen has been rotated at end of day from non-notebook position back to notebook

or just sometimes when rotating or very rarely when opening up a page in 1 of my browsers

ati updates anyone?

Re: touchsmart tx2 display problems at start up

First here is a link to HP's global warranty coverage, just because you're in another country does not mean you can't get HW support, it just depends on whether they sell that model where you are located and what the part is, for instance a hard-drive is a hard-drive but keyboards vary by region.

Another thing to note is that the Region you are in will only have the OS image for that region, so for example if you buy a Notebook in the US and go to Europe and get your notebook back it may have another language or a world wide version of English on it.

That's why it's good to create your own recovery disks first, then you can put back your original image/language.

Oh yeah the link...http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=bpr01266&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN

Good luck

Re: touchsmart tx2 display problems at start up

Well thanks for letting everyone know that you read the forums even though yo uwork at HP... However, it does not solve the problem...

It is obviously a major problem and HP does not care about its customers... HP thinks that everyone are idiots who should just buy HP... The TX model should not be made and instead of going the GM or Chrysler way, HP should rethink and appease the consumers who buy their products. It is such a common problem all around the world with this model. So for all owners, please boycott HP... As wth GM and Chrysler, than will they know how their sloppiness will PAY them back...

Re: touchsmart tx2 display problems at start up

[ Edited ]

So you disabled all in thre msconfig startup items except for the NTrig and he rotation od screen driver and deleted Norton by using Symantec's website removal tool?

The only remaining prob with my touchsmart that i really really like is the 'jumping cursor'

That issue and how to boot in DUAL mode with vista and Windows7 are available at touchsmartcommunity.com

Good Luck I hope things get better for your tx2 problems

I WISH YOU COULD GET TECH SUPPORT TO ISSUE AN ORDER TO SEND IT IN AND GET A NEW SCREEN! (did HP address ATI display software at all? Is there any possibility to get tech support and to send it in???)
