If you are a tx1000 series laptop owner and have had the following issues (or similar) this thread is for you.
Overheating, network card failure, motherboard failure, black screen, laptop not booting, etc.
I purchased by laptop in December of 2007 from Future Shop. I started having issues shortly after. My laptop was taken back to Future Shop 5 times, 3 of which is was sent to HP for repairs including network card failures and motherboard replacements. HP provides a one year warranty, which had passed by the last time that my laptop stopped functioning due to the motherboard again. The overheating, GPU and motherboard failure seem to be caused by a known issue. After many, many attempts to have the laptop replaced by HP or Future Shop, I contacted my local news station, CTV News. (www.CTV.ca). Their technology reporter (Paul Brent) agreed to cover my story ... low and behold, within days HP agreed to replace my laptop. I had already purchased another laptop (yes, another HP tablet) in the hopes that HP or Future Shop would eventually see the light and cover the cost of the new laptop. Finally, after a long battle (and help from the media) they have agreed to reimburse me for my new laptop (same value as my old tx1000 series). There is a news clip located on the CTV website here:
http://watch.ctv.ca/news/clip245461#clip245461
Even if HP were to repair the tx1000 series laptops with a new motherboard, they would be toast again a few months down the road. The laptops need to replaced or some other repair solution needs to be put into play here.
Please contact HP or Future Shop and request that they repair/replace your faulty unit
If you would like my case # to quote and contact information for HP and Future Shop executives, please contact me @ <text removed for privacy>
Hope this helps some of you!

I have the 1200 series laptop, fixed it twice by reflowing the solder on the GPU. Does anyone know how to set it up to keep the fan running at all times? This could help with the overheating I'm sure.

My HP Tablet (1305ca) was courriered back to HP about a month ago, I am still waiting for them to reimburse me for my new HP Tablet (TX2 1244ca) as agreed.
I am still working on getting HP to recall and replace this unit for other consumers as well. I'll keep you all posted in this thread.

Wendy is a moderator, I'm WebFX - the original poster of this thread and the one with the dead HP Tablet. If you want the number for the HP Escalations section just send me a PM and I'll respond with the number.
