I want to reinterate that its not a motherboard problem, it is a cooling problem. This is why the one guy had his laptop in the repair shop for roughly a year going through motherboard after motherboard. The cooling system is insufficient for the CPU and GPU.

i bought my tx1000 on may2008 in japan.and now ,after not using it for one week, when I turned it on, only black screen appeared. i tried unplugging the memory and hdd, but nothing happened. then i tried searching the internet, and to my surprise, it was a main problem most users experienced. i haven' contacted Hp yet, because im searching for a solution. anyone can point me at the right direction? what should i do first?

HP is clearly responsible for continuing to put out a known faulty product.

I've lost all confidence in HP products after my TX1000 failed. I will never recommend an HP product again. They really should do a recall of all TX1000s and TX2000s

I have a tx-1000 that was purchased at Future Shop a year ago last October. Ever since I got it, there was no wireless to be seen and I had to purchase a usb wireless adapter for it to work. Even after re-installing everything (the partition that holds the operating system in case of failure was corrupt) and downgrading to xp, it worked once, then died again. Each time I turn it on, it gets so hot, that it shuts itself down after less than an hour...pretty useless for getting anything done. Also, it got so hot, that it burned right through the label in back of the computer (the one with the serial code for Vista on it). If this computer had been sitting near a newspaper or something, I could just see the computer setting it on fire, that's how hot it is. I've written HP on numerous occasions with no reply, and then saw the CTV report and how there was finally some action. I'm just wondering if there are any numbers I can call to expediate a response from HP. Thank you very much.

Yeah, I went through two motherboards with this issue. At first it would just not boot every now and then until it eventually never would turn on. It would also lock up when it went to suspend, as the screen would not come back and it would be hard locked. Looking back it probably was a gpu issue and when it went into sleep mode the cooling caused the gpu to shift or lose connection.

I have had the black screen and failure of WiFi coming on over the last month. Finally googled "tx1000" and imagine my shock to see I am not alone.
I am truly astounded that even on this HP sponsored messageboard there is no response to the mutitude of people with this problem. When all those folks at HP are out of a job in a few years maybe they will have the time to read these posts about a clearly faulty product, and then figure out why no one bought HP ever again.
It is not a coincidence when everyone has the same problem of the black screen and WiFi failure. Although my laptop worked for a while it sounds like it is just a matter of time before the failures happen.

Yeah, since my tx has been dead for several months when I found out that tons of these were seemingly defective I was even more unhappy.
When I saw this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ctHTF3oNdxI I figured I had nothing to lose so I attempted to follow these repairs. To my surprised it actually worked, However, this does not necessarily permanently fix the problem and it is way beyond any sort of repair that anyone at home should ever attempt. But this proves that the problem was in fact a disconnect of the gpu from the motherboard. Seeing as how other models have had recalls for this issue I really do not see why HP has not extended the recall to this model, especially as the evidence piles up and it seems to be an extremely common problem.

Got a TX2000 that failed about 4 months ago. Tried the hairdryer trick and got it to work for 2 more weeks. PLAY.COM, who I got the laptop from agreed to reimburse £323 of the £620 I paid for it, but I think its a pretty low value for what I paid. Any thoughts anybody? Maybe if I carry on battling with HP directly I'll get an exchange for a new TX2?

I discovered a repair for the problem with the TX 1000 blue screen and loss of wireless. You must remove the motherboard,. First remove keyboard then slide out CD tray then remove top cover. You should have a reasonable mechanical skill do do this. After you remove the motherboard apply a liberal amount of heat on the NVIDIA chips there is one on the top of the board and one under the heat sink assembly which is very small. After you apply the heat hold the chip down for about one minutes to allow it to reseat. You must also clean the old cooling paste off the chips and the cooling sink. I had to scrape mine off with a knife. Replace the rubberized heat sink pad with a copper shim you can make from a thin piece of copper or get one off Ebay. Apply a LIBERAL amount of new heat sink paste then put back together. If all else fails you can replace the motherboard which is reasonably priced, google it the HP part number is 441097-001 also there are many listed on Ebay also showing repair facilities for about $100. Good Luck your repair may be as simple as a couple of hours work, or send in for a inexpensive repair.
