Re: tx1000 Series Laptop Failure - PLEASE READ

Hello all.

I can't believe what I am hearing. If you buy a car and the engine dies after the warranty, does it get fixed for free ...NO!

Hp computers as well as any computer have a 1 year warranty. If you expect it to last forever, you are a fool. Buy an extended warranty. If you don't, you have to take a little responsibility!

I had a  1 year warranty on my Samsung tv and it died 3 months after warranty. They did nothing for me.....but I was offered the warranty when I bought the tv and declined it so it is my fault.  I was out almost 3000 dollars! Yeah the extended warranty was $ 400 for 4 years but by cheaping out, it cost me alot more to replace my tv.

If you expect your electronics to last for 3-4 years, buy the extended warranty to match your expectations!

Unfortuently. A limited warranty is only valid in the country of purchase. It doesn't matter what brand you have. You must send it to the us at your expense.

Another sad story here as well...

Bought my daughter the tx1210 (also known as the tx1000) in 2007. By December of 2008....toast. No video, just pretty lights around the screen. Since my daughter was going to school in L.A. figured the Silicon Valley geeks could figure it out. Nope. Had to buy another one…NOT HP. Got the machine home summer of 2009. Brought it in to the local propeller heads…changed the screen ($400). Seemed to work…I knew this model also had a backlight problem…Ah…but not for long. Finally died a week ago. Meanwhile all my calls and emails to HP support echoed the incredible inanity everyone else has discovered with this company…basically “it's a hardware problem...hey bud your on your own”.

So…I got the email of the Pres and Chair of HP Canada and send him this note:

Dear Mr. Hurd

This note is one of frustration and resignation regarding one of your products...the HP Pavilion TX1000 tablet.

I purchased this product, thinking of the HP name as a mark of quality and product support, for my daughter who was entering graduate school. As you may surmise students these days desperately rely on this technology. We were initially pleased with the unit, particularly my daughter, as it was not cumbersome and easy to transport, fast and efficient. That story has changed. Earlier this year she encountered a problem which I believe your company is very familiar with, judging by customer postings on your HP websites. It involves the NVidia graphics chip. This problems results in a black screen and no functionality. I won't bore you with my story of how your staff/company was utterly useless in resolving this issue apart from washing their hands of the situation. I'm sure you are aware of this. The bottom line is there is a major hardware defect in the motherboard and your company has refused to acknowledge it. And it has affected hundreds if not thousands of users.

As for the unit...it sits in a box. My daughter purchased another one...and certainly NOT an HP. My wife currently has an HP desktop which she is hoping to replace. It will not be an HP. My other children have gone for products other than HP. As for myself, HP will no longer be considered, at home or at work.

What do I expect this letter will do? Nothing. Much like my experience with the HP Pavilion TX1000. But you should be aware that I will heartily recommend to family and friends products other than HP and explain to them our experience with the TX1000.

Regards,

On behalf of Hewlett-Packard we apologize for the recent frustrations.  We appreciate your taking the time to let us know your thoughts on this matter.  Your message has been forwarded to the appropriate group within HP for further review.

Well...I'm still waiting....

I too brought my daughter the tx1000 series Laptop in 2007 for Christmas. She's a college student and is living in Charlotte, NC. by Christmas of 2008 she lost the wireless access. And in 2009 she came home upset because the monitor has stop working. I brought 4 hp laptops that year and have been very upset with HP. My son who had the tablet too sold his before he's a Mac person. My brother never really uses his so he had had a problem. But my daughter this is the second HP laptop that I have brought for her and she is very upset with these issues.

I'm at the point where this is the last HP product that I will ever purchase. Because it seen that everyone I've brought in the past I have had to sent them back within less then a year of purchasing them. I even brought the HP Care Plans for 2 yrs but it seen like the products die right after the contract expire.

Re: tx1000 Series Laptop Failure - PLEASE READ

I brought a two year warranty, no knowing that the 2yrs started the day I brought it. What happen to the year I would have had if I hadn't brought the warranty I understand what HP is saying but when multiple people complain about the same peace  of equipment or item the company should look at the problem or recall the item.

Re: tx1000 Series Laptop Failure - PLEASE READ

Oh dear! You all have me very worried now. Just purchased the Tx2z Touchsmart tablet pc, January 2010.  Having an issue with the combo auto/air/ac adapter. came on here to see if there are any answers and I see all these problems.

So far, all is ok except this particular adapter. The standard charger works fine. Haven't gotten it to connect with my new home wireless yet, but I'm sure it's my installation as it's my first. The wireless has worked fine other places.

I'm so surprised to see all these issues. My Pavilion Desktop is 5 yrs old and going strong - never had one problem. Just got my son a new one & they love it. Just retiring my 9+ yr old printer which stil works well. I just want a wireless. The new one may be a little tinny, but haven't used much yet. So will see.

I have sworn by HP - sure hope that does not have to change. I got the custom model from HP direct & spent 16 grand loading up with the best hardware. If anyone has had problems with this model, please let me know here so I can plan ahead for warrenty coverage.

Also, am wondering what brand processors are in these faulty computers - Intel, AMD, some of each?

I see all personal contact info is deleted here - there is a Facebook page as someone mentioned. I suggest those who want to communicate furthur, go there.

Thanks for any info!

Re: tx1000 Series Laptop Failure - PLEASE READ

The problem tablet pc's have AMD processors. I just got mine back from the shop 5 weeks ago, and already the

processor is fried, giving me no wireless and a black screen. These tend to overheat, whereas the new ones run a lot

cooler. ....so you should be in luck in that regard.
