420t touchsmart upgrade TV turner

I recently bought the 420t with upgrade to TV turner card. I'm very upset that i found out that in order to use the TV turner i must rent from my cable company a converter box know as a set top box. in no way when i upgraded to TV turner did it say must use with converter box. why even come with a remote seen its useless i have to run through cable box. picture is horrible unless you rent hd converter box which is then more money. the thing that gets me is i can hook any TV in my home lcd to straight cable and lcd will pick up analog channels and digitals and and old picture tube TV will  pick up 2 to 115 without any converter. think hp needs to state this at the time of purchase to know more money is needed in order to use this this turner card
