DISK DEFRAGMENTER

HI , I HAVE THE HP Quick OUTSMART PC, THE PROBLEM IS I CAN NOT GET THE DISK DEFRAGMENTER TO RUN ON AUTO SCHEDULE, IT WILL RUN IF I DO IT MANUALLY. HAS ANY-BODY ELSE HAD THIS PROBLEM, & HOW DO I FIX IT.

WOULD PREFER NOT TO DO A FACTORY RESET.  P/S STILL IN WARRANTY ( JUST ABOUT ) THANKS DON.....

Hi Don,

Do you have Vista or Win 7?  If so, the defragmenter usually runs during idle cycles and does a pretty good job keeping your machine contiguous.

HI CHRIS , THANKS FOR THE REPLY, I AM USEING VISTA HOME PREMIUM, WHICH CAME WITH P/C.

THE SCHEDULE DEFINATLY WILL NOT ON ANY PROGRAM IE WEEKLY , DAILY, WHEN I CHECK TO SEE IF IT HAS RUN , IT ALLWAY SAYS, NEXT SCHEDULE RUN NEVER , SO I HAVE TO RUN IT MANUALLY.

Have you looked whether the 'Defrag on schedule' is checked? I personally dont like the Vista defragger and use a proper fully automatic defragger that defrags in the background and has a nice graphic display.

HI CHRIS, THANKS AGAIN FOR YOUR INTEREST,  YES, THE DEFRAG IS CHECKED, I HAVE TRIED EVERY-THING TO GET IT TO RUN,WITH-OUT SUCCESS.

SO HOW DO I INSTALL THE OPTION, YOU MENTIONED,  HOPE ITS FREE !!!.

DO I HAVE TO UNINSTALL THE ORIGINAL PROGRAM, ?.

HOW DO I FIND NEW, ?.

Don, Please stop typing in ALL CAPS, it's very difficult to read. Also just a suggestion, there's not a huge need to be focusing on Disk Defragmentation, especially on a newer system such as this, while in theory it can provide a slight difference, I would bet almost good odds that you will never be able to see it. I'd be focusing on other things and let this one slide, maybe revisit after you've got a better understanding on your new PC. Diane

Hi anyone, I have noticed other programs, that have stopped working, which may, or may not be related to the problems im having, perhaps somehow my setting have changed. IE autofil & screen saver photos,

I fill in a competition, daily, sometimes the autofil will work, other times not.

The screen saver used to display a slideshow of photos, when the p/c had been idle for the set amount of time, this also has stopped working, even though i have reset it .

I have reset all 3 items several times, ie  disc defrag, screen photos, autofil.

odviusly something, setting or what-ever has changed, can not find any info on help & support window.

none of these items really matter, its just annoying, & they should work,

Yes i had same problem  hp advised me to do a factory reset  instead i bought Disk keeper 11  for 29.99 it works great it is easier than resetting you computer

Try other software try Diskeeper for 29.99, in TopTenReviews I got that this software is the best than the other disk defragmenter software. I agree with you rgc315
