I solved the issue myself! I went and bought an IMAC! Its awesome. I have no issues. Its faster and everything just works. Apple even moved all my data over for me. I'm done with HP. Their products and service have simply tanked.

It is a darn good thing I can't slap through the phone!! I am having the same issues with my TouchSmart 600s - both of them, purchased at the same time. Can read CDs but not DVDs, particularly installation discs (Adobe Premier, Peachtree Accounting, Quicken). It is NOT the disc as they play fine in other computers. After seeing these other posts, it is obviously an issue that needs to be addressed and resolved by HP, however being a year out of warranty, I'm sure it will not be.
Went through every post I could find plus the 8 steps on HP's Support page, which I DO NOT recommend: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docnam
Called Support 866-408-5408 and after convincing the first guy that I had done everything already, he transferred me to Level II, but the call was disconnected. Called again, next person didn't have the info I just gave so started over. He said they would ship out a new drive $52.80 plus tax and shipping with instructions to replace. Told him I only wanted one until I was sure problem would be resolved. He transferred me to another department. Note: All three were difficult to understand however the last one said if I had trouble understanding let her know and she would speak slower. I wanted so badly to start speaking Pig Latin and tell her I would slow down if she didn't understand! Final blow, she said they could not ship the drive for this model and that I would have to send it in for replacement of the drive - $217.41 - EACH!!! Now is where the need to slap comes in! I told her to have her supervisor call me, however he is only in from 9 - 6 US Time. You will hear from me again!!!

That is just wrong !!!!!
They keep getting away with it - people just give up and don't press on!! I am going to press hard enough for all of us and now you on the band wagon. I hate to say this, but I had to install HP printer software from their cd and it worked --- went back to the last cd I tried to install from and again the drive wouldn't recognize it - **bleep**!!
I am going to call every day!!
Don't give up stay on them as exhausting as it is!! Good luck !!! keep up posted please ![]()

Hello PRx_x:
What a waste time with HP technicians. To get your software disc to open on your computer is not going cost you new CD/DVD. even if you do replace it same thing will happen again. To fix your issue at least with software. You are going to need to upgrade your Touchsmart computers from Windows 7 home to Windows 7 Ultimate ounce you have done this go on line and down load Microsoft Windows xp mode and Windows Xp virtual window. Ounce that is completed. Open up XP mode and set up XP virtual window. Once it open now insert your software install in this window. If for some reason the insulation fails go to my computer while still in Xp click on d. drive open it up to veiw files. Look for insulation files and click them to run. Files may end in exe. these are insulation files as well.
I know this works because I have windows 98 software installed and Microsoft XP Pluss and 90% of software that is listed on Microsoft compatible website that says it is not compatible Like Microsoft Office 2003 Microsoft Works 7. I ran into same problem as you did with Pint Perfect Deluxe witch is for Windows 7 but it would not install on Windows 7 side but installed on XP side works just fine.
Far as playing DVD's you have to pay for HP Mediasmart DVD Link is posted above previously.frrw

Thank you for the info.I wish I had seen your post earlier. Actually, after my last rant, I received a call from a nice gentleman in the US who mailed two new DVD/CD drives at a cost of $37 each and sent a technician to install both at no charge and within five days, both drives are working beautifully. This is definately a reasonable charge and the downtime was acceptable. Almost hate to admit it, but I'm pretty impressed with HP at the moment!! Why can't they just handle everything "for" this country "in" this country?

I have the exact same problem with my Touchmart 300. Tried to load Adobe Creative Suite and the light flashes but nothing loads. I called HP service in a far off land and got the rudest CSR who insisted in receiving $59.99 for 14 days or $99 for a year of support.
Hey I understand when a computer is out of warranty ... company's obligations are lower, but clearly this is a systemic issue as you can find similar post on lots of websites.
As for customer support, that is no excuse to be rude. I requested a supervisor and got a gentleman named Vikas who simply listened to me discuss how difficult the preceding CSR was and never offered to look into the issue. HP support is nonexistent.
We have a lot of HP products and generally have been satisfied but my 9 year old Dell has been service free while my Touchsmart continues to be a problem. Last All-In-One of me.

Just wondering how the new DVD/CD drives are doing? I've been having issues playing movies and other DVD/CD reading problems on my 600-1050 Touchsmart and have gone through every possible solution that has been put on this site, with no results. Did the new drives work? My computer is out of warranty and if getting a new drive out of HP for about $40 will work then I'll go that route.
Thanks,

Hello kwazywabbit:
Sorry champ even if you replaced your cd/dvd drive (optical drive) your problem will still excist. The codes that disks use is the issue not your (optical drive) if you click on settings on your HP DVD player you will see an update if you click on it. The Internet Explorer will take you to Cyberlink update. This update cost money but it will down load the codes so that you can watch different DVD's.with differt code formats. HP has blocks on your computer that blocks other free software codes from third party web-sites such as Real Player, VLC, and other media players. Only thing you can do is buy another computer brand such as Sony or Apple computers to watch movies on or buy the update last time check it was $89.00 and sum change. Like most costumers have switch there brands and will not buy another HP computer because of this one issue. No other way arround it. frrw.

frrw,
I don't know if I buy that or totally understand how this could have happened unless HP disabled the codes in an update. I've owned my 600-1050 for three years now and I have watched DVDs on it, I watched a DVD from Netflix just a year ago. It seems to me my problem started right after that when I tried to take one of my DVD's add put it on my phone. Unfornutately I discovered that I couldn't watch a DVD for some time after that, I couldn't go to a restore point far enough to fix it.
