Ethernet Network Password

My touch screen flickers really bad but I found a solution that says I need a certain driver. The screen is so bad that I cannot really see what I am doing so I am trying to hook up my laptop via ethernet cord so I can download the file on the laptop and transfer it over. When I try to connect, it wants a password. I have not set up a password on the touch screen yet and leaving the password blank or putting password does not work. Any ideas?

Re: Ethernet Network Password

Might be much simpler to just download the file, move it to a usb flash drive or media card and ttransfer it to Touchsmart that way.

If the laptop and Touchsmart are on a home network you should be able to set up File sharing and each be able to see folders on the other, copy files, etc.

Re: Ethernet Network Password

Thanks. I came to that conclusion when I went to work last night and one of my responsibilities is to back up a stand alone piece of equipment using a flash drive. I feel dumb for posting the original question now, but the important thing is that thiuestion is solved. I am just hoping that it stops the flickering.

What model is your machine with the flickering screen? Have you checked the driver/support page for it here at HP to see if there are any updates that might apply? You can find your driver page using the button at top of this page titled-'Support & Drivers'.

If the machine is still within the standard 1 yr warranty you may want to request warranty service>> Contact HP

Re: Ethernet Network Password

It's a TouchSmart 1020 all in one PC. Unfortunately, it is out of warranty. I bought it refurbished which gave it a 90 day warranty. I bought it in August as a Christmas present and just set it aside. I never opened it so I did not know that it had a 90 day warranty instead of a 1 year. I ran it Christmas Day and it ran fine. The next time I ran it I had the flicker. I thought that maybe it was a loose wire at first but the flicker lessens when I maxamize a window so I am pretty sure it is a driver. The computer says that it cannot do a system recovery from when I first bought it and I have been trying different drivers but none of them work yet.

Maybe you should try doing a complete reinstall of the OS just to rule out a flaky install. you should have HP Recovery Manager in Start, All Programs. It can be used to start the new install after a reboot. It can also be used to reinstall drivers.

You also can check your driver/software page to see if there is an update for the video.Choose your specific TouchSmart here and you will be taken to the support page:

Re: Ethernet Network Password

FYI if you have a PC with NO password and try to connect to it remotely with another PC,  it will frequently ask for a non-existent password. The solution is to have a password.
