FireWire on 520-1050?

Where is the FireWire port on this 520-1050? Read that it had FireWire, but now cannot locate?!  Read this was part of package, but now that I want to connect my Sony DV camera I cannot locate...  If not included, can IEEE 1394 be added??

Re: FireWire on 520-1050?

Hi:

Below is the link to the product specs page for your PC. It shows the location of all ports. No firewire port is indicated.

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03014580&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&cc=us&dlc=en...

I don't know if there is such a thing as a USB to firewire adapter .

It appears that would be your only option if such a device exists.

Re: FireWire on 520-1050?

Bob, welcome to the forum.

Well, the bad news is there is no Firewire available from the factory. The good news is you should be able to add a card. Here is one that should work:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815158274&nm_mc=OTC-Froogle&cm_mmc=OTC-Froogle...

I suggest checking with the manufacturer of the card to assure that it will work in a TouchSmart PC.

Re: FireWire on 520-1050?

OK – so study of the link Paul provided above – there is no note or expandability or open slots…

I downloaded two documents from HP “hp TS 520-1050 manual.pdf” and “hp TS 520-1050 repair manual.pdf” – neither shows instruction re: adding something to an open slot…

The HP site (http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/computer_can_series.do?storeName=computer_store&category=... shows 2x PCIe x1 MiniCard sockets.  (so it that 2x PCIe and 1x MiniCard??)

But, I suspect the BT/WiFi is in one of these slots – I do NOT have a graphic card or HDMI input – but do have a TV Tuner.

The BestBuy site link says 1x PCI Express slot is open, but the starting post - links also say this thing has FireWire!

Why can’t I get the info directly from HP?

Even if I have an open slot – where is it and how will these ‘card’ present to the outside of the unit?  As I have no HDMI in, can I get another blank panel where the HDMI was to try to mod it to trim cleanly with the StarTech unit the old geekster shows above?

Understanding towers more and more…

Re: FireWire on 520-1050?

Here are the specs for your HP TouchSmart 520-1050 Desktop Computer. According to the specs;

Expansion Slots:

Two PCI Express mini card sockets (Generation 2 speed)

One PCI Express MXM slot that supports a PCI Express x16 graphics card (Generation 2 speed)

The two PCIe minicard sockets are occupied by the 802.11 b/g/n wireles / BT card and the AVerMedia NTSC/ATSC A327 card. This leaves no empty sockets to install other cards. The TouchSmart / AIO(all-in-one) type of computers share more with laptops than desktops. They aren't really meant to be upgraded.

Bob wrote... "shows 2x PCIe x1 MiniCard sockets.  (so it that 2x PCIe and 1x MiniCard??)"

No, it means 2 X PCIe x1 Minicard sockets... that is there are two PCIe minicard sockets each with a lane width of 1.

Re: FireWire on 520-1050?

So, If I remove the WiFi/BT card (I'm not using) can I install the following?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815158274&nm_mc=OTC-Froogle&cm_mmc=OTC-Froogle...

If so, I would like to buy the blank panel under the DVD slot to Mod and offer the FireWire to the 'world'. How can I buy one?? Last but not least - I need an instruction manual to remove the BT/WiFi card - where do I get?

Thanks all! Maybe one step from solution and kudos!

Re: FireWire on 520-1050?

Here are instuctions for Removing and Replacing the Motherboard.

As a part of replacing the motherboard, it is necessary to take parts off the old motherboard and install them on the new one, hence, you'll probably find the instructions you're looking for.

Good luck,

Re: FireWire on 520-1050?

Here is the parts list from HP PartSurfer Product Information.  One other thing, it looks like that card requires an extra power source (IDE HDD style) and your system won't have that.

Re: FireWire on 520-1050?

heayy, these cards might not work. I guess that expansion card in the link is only for normal desktop computers and we cannot insert this card in the Tocushsmart desktop
