Your situation is not uncommon for some PC users. I know it's frustrating when a system needs to be restored and data is wiped or applications are lost but there are processes in place shared via the documentation and the web support pages to address backups of personal files. You spoke about the loss of applications and your inability to recover these "Apps" I would think you would have access or to or proof of purchase codes for any software that was purchased and is still within warranty. What was the issue you were experiencing with your touchsmart 600 that necessitated an OS recovery? Was it hardware or software related? Sharing of this information will aid others in understanding how to avoid the same issues in the future.

I'm a new HP Touchsmart 600PC owner, and I'm trying hard to learn the proper way to use my PC, The user guides leave much to be discovered....It seems the only time the touch screen works is when I"m in the magic carpet app.?If I'm wrong pls. let me know? Recently I Had to do a reset back to factory settings, because i went into programs where u set the programs to open other programs and it ended i could not open anything, without clicking program i wanted to open with (that was always the wrong g choice, so I finally was able to restore it to the way I purchased it from best buy,I was thankful for that ,because geek squad could"nt help me,nor HP onlne assist was a nightmare,I"m still under warranty,I don"nt know how much good that will be.Bottom line is,I still do not know how to work my computer??any suggestions??

Hello: I see you are new to the computer thats great. I have the older version software #3 .I am not sure what is in the new version 4 witch I think you are talking. I am sure they are similar. Look for a program called HP advisor. This is where you find things about your computer programs, dynastic your compoter excetra. This one is easer to find Just click on help and support. When it opens it tells you how to learn how to use you your computer. Just clik on the sentences you want to learn about. On my computer it has HP Touchsmart click that open. This has all my features tutorials with vedios. That is the progam with the color bars across the top that you swipe with fingers. Plus HP offers free on line classes not just how to use the computer but the computers software as well including printing projects. The first thing you must make is a set of recovery disk. The Hp Advisor will give you step by step instruction. Good Luck with your new computer I hope you realy enjoy it. Take your time in learning and enjoying it. Just remeber to close out programs by pressing x or clicking it. I sure it will be confusing at first especially now every thing is on the desk top versa hidden. Mine is getting confusing now that I upgraded to Windows 7 ultimate. It is like having three computers in one. I have three different windows screens. Four different Internet explorer bars. Certain programs can only run in certain windows.
When you purchase software make sure it can run on 64 bit computers not 32 bit windows. I hope this will help you.
