Hp Touchsmart IQ770 Desktop, Black Screen

Hi everyone with the black screen of death. Hp Touchsmart IQ770 Desktop.

30th of January I turned on my machine and low and behold everything was working perfectly, I quickly put all my precious photo's and info to disc and the b----y thing worked perfectly well for exactly 7 days. Got up the next day and turned it on, you've guessed it, back to where we were, black screen and nothing working but the fan and a beep when I touch the screen.

So now it's going to the recycle I have spent way too much time trying to get something out of the £1200 I spent. HP you should have told me you would grab my money and run!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi i have had the same problem I have noticed that this seems to be the problem with the iq770 series with the NVIDIA  GRAPHICS CARDS in them. they overheat and the video goes out the black screen of death. i have had colored lines,a blue screen, a white screen, a black screen at one point or another. i have had a tech work on it ,he replaced the graphics card and it was working fine for about a week. then the black screen of death took over,it went out again. i took it back and we figured out that it is still overheating. the temp on the graphics card is reaching well over 120 degrees then the screen starts going out. if you let it cool and turn it on it runs fine till it gets to hot. i personally think there should be some sort of a recall on these. this has happened to so many people. if anyone knows how to keep the card from overheating please let me know. the heat sink is clean of dust and the fan is working. maybe it needs a new fan and heat sink????

also the graphics card is replaceable on the IQ770 you don't need to get a new motherboard. (BUT) the only card that you can replace it with is the original NVIDIA GO 7600 and they are hard to find. they cost about $200-$250 . the computer is very compact and difficult access the inside, but it is possible with a little effort.

After spending countless number of hours searching for a video card replacement.  I found one at "impact computer miami"  on the web for $299.95.  For everyone's info the pn (RN635-69010) 7600G S G73M, PCIe nVidia graphics card. There's a picture of on the web site I found.  Personally I think its way too much to spend and I think,  this is a on going problem with HP.  Yes this should have been a recalled, consider the number of failures and lack of replacement part.  If you look at the picture of this part you could clearly see this is a heat problem, after opening the computer this part is all heat sink!   HP should be a shame selling this product and not standing behind it!  Its time for an Apple.

I would not spend any more money on this, I am sure it's an inbuilt, ongoing problem.

Yes they should be recalled, but they are still selling them brand new, if at the much lower price of £399

If I could be motivated I would call owners together, not literally of course, (facebook or something) there must be quite a few, all we need is a voice loud enough to get some help.

This just happened to me and I was wondering if I can connect a secondary monitor to the mini VGA port to get at least something to show up? Does anyone know the answer before I shell out $30 on the cable?

Mine went blank.. i still havnt got it fixed.

But i have a new laptop that constatly overheats.. or it used to until i was told by a tech guy that NEVER leave it on stand by.

Because that heats it up and doesnt let it run properly. So a hint NEVER leave it on stand by.

I too have a touchsmart with a blackscreen, considering this is a "support" forum with lots of posts on this subject HP are very quiet.

same problem with mine £1200 down the drain i will never buy hp/compaq for my self/family or business again , customer support [sic] absolute joke . i have contacted bbc watchdog about this and the researcher informed me there have been multiple complaints
