I have the IQ 504 but experiencing the same problem, turned on booted up then suddenly went black never to return.
Have been told that cost to repair would be same amount basically that the "THING" cost . I would think that HP would at least offer some repair support since it seems this is one of the biggest lemon productions of our day. If anyone else receives positive feedback from HP please let me know.

Hey, I cannot believe that so many people has this same problem it's impossible. At first I thought it was a virus but after reading this I know its HP's fault. I have always trust in HP products but as I see now I would never buy HP products again and I will post on Facebook against them I dont want anybody else to fall with the same. I am really disappointed, I really trusted HP they were always so willing to resolve any problems I've had in the past and now this. When I chated with them last day they gave me a web page with steps to reset the system but it needed my keyboard and I told them that it does not work and even with that knowledge they game the stepts that needed my keybord the are just so stup... just say I AM EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED WITH YOU HP!!!!!

I'm happy that you agree something should be done about this. I am convinced this is a design fault, if it wasnt then HP would be more helpful, they know it is and are ignoring it in the hope that eventually we will all go away. We need a loder voice, Facebook would be great

No, you didn't need to buy any extra cover.
According to the Trading Standards Division "all goods must be fit for their purpose." This includes the length of time you expect something to last for. The law states that suppliers have responsibility over their goods for up to six years.
Basically, you expect a PC that costs over a grand to last longer than two years, yes? Therefore it is HP's responsibility to offer free repairs or replacements or, if these are not feasible options, a full or partial refund.
The extra five years cover they sell in stores is a complete scam.
Sorry for jumping on this post, my dad has been drumming this into me since I was a kid.. Haha! I'm having a similar sort of problem with my desktop and until now I'd assumed I'd done something stupid to damage it.

The "Trading Standards Division" appears to be UK related, this forum tends to be global, so the same rules do not always apply in all locations, in the US the Manufacturers Warranty period is what is stated, there is no additional implied warranty such as you're stating.

I have an 18month old touchsmart iq 790uk - first of all the hard drive died, just out of warrenty but I replaced that.
Then I had a problem with the cpu fan, the machine wouldn't start up telling me there was a fault with the fan and to protect the computer it would shut down. After countless phone calls to hp, I finally managed to speak to a company who were contracted to fix their out of warrenty pc's - and it would cost me £250 to fix regardless of the problem - I couldn't afford that so I popped it into pc world, where I bought it.
The guy very kindly opened it up for me there and then, he fiddled with the fan and it started turning again - he suggested dust was the problem, he also told me that the way the fan was attached it would be quite complex to replace.
I took it home and was so pleased it was only a minor problem, I kept using compressed air to give it a clean because every now and again it would take me a few goes to get the fan working so I could continue using the machine.
One day a couple of weeks later i turned it on and all I can see is a black screen with blue stripes, it tries to load but then goes to a black screen and nothing else happens.
I suspect that the cpu fan was not working efficiently enough and overheated causing the graphics card to break - does that sound about right?
So what to do now - I cannot afford to send it away - any ideas where I can get a new fan and graphics card for this pc - from what I have read this alone could be a problem.
Any help would be much appreciated
Thank you
Michelle

i have an IQ775
one day i turn on computer, and black screen, windows doesnt load
so after googling, i tried this and it worked:
hold in the power button for about a minute or two. once you push it in, the computer will turn off....keep holding the button in for about a minute or so, then try to turn it on again. most times, it starts right up and windows loads. you may have to try it a few times, and even hold the button in for over 2 minutes
using the 2 year warranty that i got from office depot, they sent a tech out. he determines it is NOT the power button, and thinks its the power supply. he returns 2 weeks later and tries to replace the power supply. he cannot for fear of breaking the computer, it is very hard to get to. so he says they will call me, i might have to send it in to the factory to fix....two weeks later another tech comes and successfully replaces the power supply, it took him an hour or so....it worked for 3 days before the same problem happened
i got it turned on after a few tries, and havent turned it off since. i had to stop automatic updates because sometimes it wont restart without me holding in the button, ugh
so i am waiting their reply on how they will proceed.......the warrantly just ran out, but since i called before it expired, it is considered the same problem
try holding in the button and let me know if it worked...if it does, dont turn it off lol....

Hey guys,
You can simply buy standard 7600GO MXMII graphic card. In Poland its avaiable for mhm about 100$
I think its not so much.. When replacing card use fe. Arctic Silver 5 paste and check if radiator is mounted ok. Whole these TouchSmarts, Pavilions etc are terribly overheating, you dont want to replace this card once again so rly check cooling system![]()
I order few laptops and All-in-ones with MXMII cards like 7600go, hd2400 and sth else. I'll try to check in next week if 7600go can be upgraded or replaced with other model.
When You got black screen on lcd there is 99% chance, that it is gpu failure. You can try to get this 7600go card off the pc and put it into cooker (oven? - not microwave one!!) and set temperature to 200-220 C.deg.
It mostly helps but only for short period of time - like few days or weeks.
If You just want to buy new card type "Go 7600" in ebay ![]()
regards
