Hp Touchsmart IQ770 Desktop, Black Screen

Ive had a similar problem. One fine day when i switched on my computer all i could hear was the fan and see the power light on the system. The screen was completely black and nothing seem to be working. I tried all troubleshoots offered online to reset bios etc thinking its a boot display problem. But didn't work. I kept restarting my computer in the hope that it would start, but no luck. 

I then gave up and called up the customer support, they had put me onto an agency which repairs HP systems in the country. On contacting them, I had to take my system to them and have it diagnosed- on which the technician said that my entire motherboard would have to be replaced as its an irreparable motherboard!!! I was shocked even more when the technician told me that the motherboard was no longer available as the model had been discontinued 6 months after my purchase (with a hefty amount i had spent!!!) and getting the spare part was very difficult and even if it was there, it would have to be imported and the overall cost would be almost half of what I had paid for the computer initially !!!

I really regret my choice in buying this system, should have bought an apple for the same price!

It continues to sit on my table as well, and i dont have the heart to buy a new motherboard at half the cost of what i paid for the entire system!

If anyone finds a solution for this, please let me know.

It is possible to cure some of these types of fault by REMOVING the Graphics card.

Quite easy to do and I have no doubt that it was not tried as it is not an accepted fix.

Hey guys i had same problem with my hp touchsmart 300(screen goes black and fan works madly nothing shows up) and i found out soloution i didnt belive at the first but i try this and it works srsly ..

i unplug my hp touchsmart and hold power for more than 60 sec then i press button 4-5 times then i plug in and turn it on ..

hope works for u guyz also

I had this tonight on my IQ816.  When I checked the event viewer, it was the Nvidia driver error of nviddmkm.  Did some searches, found that it can possibly be caused by Vista update KB952287.  Uninstalled that, and also, changed the Nvidia, 3D Settings, Multi Display/mixed - GPU Acceleration to Single Display Performance Mode. 

Too soon to tell if this fixed it, but so far, so good.

In my experience, alot of our problems with this stuff is either from the power settings or the Nvidia drivers.  It is all software related.

 I have an iq770 which had graphics issues.

I have removed the graphics card and moved the vga connector across to run on the onboard graphics card.

She now boots lovely and all seems well....

However, Windows 7 only pics up the graphics card as a standard VGA...

I have checked the spec and the onboard spec is a geforce 6100, I have tried to install 6100 drivers to no avail, it just tells me no 6100 installed!!!

Any ideas on ow to bypass this issue as it does limit what you can  do on the pc now?
