hp is being very quiet about this issue ,considering the number consumers this has happened to. the IQ770 was an inovation in the hp company. It is one of the first computers to have the touchscreen technology. This is a new prototype for hp and a new gamble thinking the public will buy its product. If it wasn't for us first buyers of this product the touchsmart pc line would not be possible. Maybe the first model wasn't quite right to stand the test of time, but if the hp company wants to stand the test of time it needs to stand by its product and supply replacement parts, or a way to fix this problem with probably millions of consumers. Yes i think the consumers need a voice, and if there is a loud enough voice maybe we will be hered. My IQ770 continues to sit on its desk in pieces waiting for a fix. Its been over a year now.

I would so love to confront HP with this, I have £1200 pounds worth of PC sat on my desk and I cant bring myself to take it to the recycling. I got less than two years use out of it, HP utterly useless, obviously they have such a large section of the market they dont need to worry about a few dissenters.
They will be reading all these posts, they know exactly whats going on with this particular model and they are choosing to completely ignore it because they know that eventually we will move on and they can forget about it.
I too will never buy any HP product again. I always thought you got what you paid for, buy cheap get crap, spend more get quality, not so

i am sure that if you purchase goods from a shop , you will get 1 year gaurantee and then a further 5 years cover . which basically means under trading standards if you machine develops a technical fault within 6 years your covered as long as it is not wear and tear , which i do not believe this is wear and tear , they have been developed incorrectly , check with your trading standards office and print all these comments off to show them . good luck and please reply .

I'm obviously out of my one year guarantee, I didnt buy extra cover at the time of purchase, so I dont understand where the five years cover comes from. Are you assuming I was bright enough to have the bought the extra cover.
If so you were wrong, I should have bought a less pricy machine and paid for cover. Hind sight, such a wonderful thing.

Sadly this is just typical HP. Same problem here too. 1.5 years into ownership, and it takes a dump. Nvidia chipset from THREE years of laptops & desktops, and now this kinda garbage. I honestly think that HP has contempt for their customers.

Hi,
Bought my hp iq770 in October 07. started having trouble with keyboard, then vista updates stopping some functions to work and now the black screen. Fan comes on, power light on, beeps when you touch the screen but screen is black. Phoned HP for help advised we take it to PC World, Pc World say we need to talk to HP, Phone HP again, paid £15.00 for telephone technical support but could not get support straight away, put on hold for ages on 0844 number, very frustrating. Took them 3 days to get someone to call me back. Complained about the wait on phone and the time taken to return phone call for help but HP say they could do nothing for me, if unhappy woth product I need to take it back to PC World mentioning to them Sales of Goods Act. Took it back to PC World but not will not take responsibility saying because it's out of warranty and because it sounds like a software problem nothing can be done and so would have to pay for repair. Very dissappointed with the computer's performance, HP and PC World. I also feel something should be done about this.

My story exactly, £1200 worth of PC. Sadly there is a long queue of people with the same complaint. I keep emailing HP they just refer me to the forum or PCWorld who in turn refer me back to HP dosnt seem to be a way of making HP step up to the plate and honour their obligation. They have known for some time that this product has a design fault. All they need to do is ignore us, it's working for them so far. I dont know where to go from here, it feels like there should be some body we can appeal to but so far I cant find one. You just cant seem to get through to the big guys.

Been working on an IQ770 for a few days now for a friends father with the black Screen Issue. I am typing on it now.
I replaced the CMOS battery and stoped getting a check sum error durring booting. At least so far.
I have found that if I hold the F# key while hjitting the power button it boots correctly and the screen goes most of the time on the 3rd try or so.
Power off.
Press the F3 key a few times.
Hold down the F3 Key and Power On. Once you see the Hard drive light work tap the F3 key till the boot options come up.
Pick the hard drive.
And Vista Loads.
Still working on the final fix but this is working here and he can at least use the box.
This also seems to work with the F10 key which takes you into the set-up but once you enter the set-up and save changes it wont restart Vista.
Have to do the above F3 to get into vista.
I don't think it is a hardware issue.
Good luck to all!
