Not really sure what's going on here, but it seems to be happening to others as well in the TouchSmart Family of computers.
HP TouchSmart IQ770 running Windows Vista Home Premium SP2. Everything running fine until a recent HP and Windows push that seems to have killed the wireless adapter. I too experience the little red x over the internet connection in the start up menu and cannot find any reference to a wireless adapter in the device tree, just bluetooth and LAN. Wiped everything and reloaded the original OS with no success.
I understand the computer is 4 years old, but it hasn't been used for anything but watching tv and recipes in the kitchen. Pretty sad testiment to HP if you ask me judging by the number of people having similiar issues.
What's the fix? Have taken it in to the Geek Squad x 2 and they're clueless as well...telling me to just throw it in the dumpster. My wife loves the thing in the kitchen, so there has to be another answer...USB wireless adapter? That doesn't seem to answer the mail either.
Intersted in the responses.
