IQ506 NVIDIA GeForce 9300M GS Driver after Upgrade to Win 7

I upgraded my Vista-64 to Win 7 64 and now I need the correct driver. I downloaded and installed sp44488 but I'm not getting the features that I expect with Win 7. There is no Aero functions and the display size is limited to 1380 X 1050.

That driver worked fine for me.  I saw that Windows update tried to install a different driver which does give problems.  Did you try and re-install the SP 44488 package ?

I read that Nvidia is working on a better driver for our card.

Try Windows Update (opt in on recommended / optional drivers)

windowsupdate.microsoft.com

To check for Aero, go to Control Panel System Performance and Maintenance and run the assessment. Once it completes, go to Display Properties and choose an Aero Theme.

I checked everyuthing before I made the posting. I've been a PC user since 1981 and have had many years of experience, but this one baffles me. This is the message I get when I try to trouble-shoot the Aero experience: "The current video card may support Aero with a driver that is compliant with the Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM). Contact the manufacturer of your computer or video card for a WDDM-compatible driver."

It appears that the driver I have installed from HP isn't compatable with Win 7's Aero feature. When will one be made available?

Yes, I re-installed the sp44488 package and it didn't help. I also went to NVIDIA's web site and tried several of thier listed drivers but couldn't find one that would install. Their installation packages exited with a message "un-supported device or operating system, contact the manufacturer."

1. install winrar.

2. then download the hp iq506 Vista x64 bit version of the update driver to your local hard drive...

NVIDIA GeForce 9300M GS Graphics BIOS and Driver Update  07-2008       7.15.11.7466     -     77.75M

3. then using windows file explorer, right click on the driver exe and select "Extract to sp35723\"

4. Move into the sp35723\src directory and run setup.exe from there.

5. A reboot will be required.

This is the only driver for the iq508a that works fine for me.  What I suggest as I have done, is to feed back to HP that the Win 7 driver doesn't work..

Jim, you're very persistent. I guess I got a little impatient, that's the one "trick" I hadn't tried. IT WORKED!

My IQ506 keeps flickering after the Win 7 Home Premium 64 upgrade.  I installed the HP recommended driver (no luck), could not get the Nvidia drivers to download from the Nvidia web site (at least their tech support was more helpful than HP's).  In the end, Nvidia said that this was caused by a fault in the IQ 506 BIOS that HP was aware of and is supposedly working to correct (I'm not holding my breath, based on past HP lack of performance).  I'll try loading the '08 driver mentioned above and see if that helps.

Winrar is a free download you can get to "unpack" the downloaded file. Just search on Google for Winrar and you'll get it.
