JimT,
Sorry to be a pest. I'm home now and at the offending PC. I found "winrar" through Google and installed it. When I went to the HP Driver Download Site, I could not find the Nvidia Driver you referenced. The latest one I could find for the Nvidia 9300M and Vista 64 is "sp37385.exe, (1/1 , 76.92M)". How do I get to the updated driver (my screen still flickers after installing SP37385).

Actually, the one you want is for Vista 64:
NVIDIA GeForce 9300M GS Graphics BIOS and Driver Update - sp37523.exe.
The one is the posting doesn't work, I found this by going to HP's support and drivers link and then selected Vista 64. It was the second one down under Driver - Graphics. It updates both the driver and the BIOS.
That's the one that worked for me under Win 7.

Thanks Boss! My problem was that I let HP do the autodetect and it sent me to the IQ506t site which did not have that patch under Vista 64. When I typed in IQ506, I found it. So far, so good (no flicker) although it did give me a scare when the screen went black and stayed that way during the install (usually it goes black for a few seconds then returns when updating a video driver). After the re-boot, it appears that all is well.
One last question, should I also install the NVWinFlash in the src_Vbios folder, or was that done during the src_Driver setup routine (or should I not tempt the computer gods and leave well enough alone)?
Thanks again for your help. Wish I could get the 12 hours of my life back that I spent on the phone last week with HP/MS/Nvidia tech support.

run the setup.exe from the sp37523\src_Driver folder, not the install.exe

I just loaded a IQ506 with Win7 x86 and had the flickering problem. I finally solved it by simply downloading the latest Win7 drivers from Nvidia (195.62 at the time) and then turning off PowerMizer.
You can turn off PowerMizer using Nv GPU Pro which can be found here:

I guess the powersaving features of the 9300M are flaking out and turning the backlight off and on or something.
I take no credit for this fix though. I found this fix here:

thats intersting because when I use PowerMizer, it is enabled and I have the HP Vista driver installed, not the nvidia driver and no flickering.

I just assumed the custom HP drivers had some customizations to the power saving settings that prevented the flickering. Turning off power saving all together works too. It wouldn't be a very good solution on a laptop but who cares about power saving on a desktop. I would rather run the latest Nvidia drivers then the older HP custom drivers.
I didn't have any luck with the HP drivers for what ever reason. I still had flickering. But if it works for others then great. I was just throwing out another option.
