Re: Is it possible to upgrade the hp touchsmart IQ816 processor or video card?

Here are the specs for your HP Touchsmart IQ816 Desktop Computer and its IMISR-CF (Eve) motherboard. According to those specs, you can upgrade the CPU and video card as follows;

Motherboard supports the following processor upgrades:
Socket type: P (for mobile processors)
Core 2 Duo (Merom)
Core 2 Duo (Penryn) (supports Penryn core with front side bus speed of 800 MHz only)

PCIe x16 interface
MXM connector
256 MB
GeForce 9600M-GS graphics card is supported by some models beginning in Fall 2008
Integrated graphics using Intel GMA 3100
*Integrated video is not available if a graphics card is installed

These upgrades will not be fun or cheap.

Good luck.

Frank

Re: Is it possible to upgrade the hp touchsmart IQ816 processor or video card?

Hey there, the processor itself is a real difficult and almost impossible task to do.. not completely mind you.. but one that I would definately leave to more seasoned vet's of upgrades or modding guru's (it is very much like a large laptop keep that in mind, not only is the motherboard lacking support for many newer processors but the space inside the box is very limited so heat sinks or cooling devices are almost impossible to upgrade which by default would limit the CPU anyway not to mention the MOBO isn't the latest either). One thing you can do very easily and quickly and will definately present an overall boost to your system.. I've done this and the processor seems to hum with this solution. Upgrade your 5400 RPM drive to an SSD. My SSD turns in a faster score in Win Index than the CPU.. basically CPU can hum along nicely as the drive is no longer the bottle neck to get the data to the CPU for processing to begin with.. Seriously give that a try it's a lot cheaper and less dangerous for a novice or mid tear upgrader to do.
