Issue with Wireless Optical Mouse and Keyboard Not Connecting (HP Touchsmart 300-1020)

I just purchased a refurbished touchsmart 300-1020 and I am having the same problem.  In the manual it says to look for the blue led light on the back of the computer, but I dont see it...I have tried new batteries (eventhough it is new), I have tried turning it off and back on, I have tried just pressing the connect button for 5 seconds with no blue led light seen...Nothing seems to be working, what are some other things I can try?  Also on the back where the receiver is, it is actually built in to the computer so Im not sure if I would be able to see the blue led light or if there is something I should be plugging into the receiver before trying to sync...

any and all information would be appreciated

I'm having the same problem with mine as well.  Tried downloading all the drivers I could find.  The mouse syncs but the keyboard doesn't sync no matter how long I hold down the connect button.  Changed the batteries a few times too but no go.  Also the device manager doesn't recognize the keyboard for some reason.  This is really frustrating.  If anyone out there who has a solution to this, please let me know before I can ship this piece of ****** back.

Make sure you plug in the USB wireless dongle, which is what the keyboard and mouse transmit to. It will light up Blue when the connection is made.

Well...I just used the CCleaner and then the Defrggler. Not only did my mouse work but my 802.11 also started to work and has not worked in months. I have a USB stick that does that. My blue lock on light also lit up...fancy that.

Tell me there was a good reason for that please. Everytime I get an update the blue light goes off and the LAN quits!

This computer has been nothing but problems since i first bought it several years back...it is an HP IQ770.

Please tell me that Windows 7 will fix all the problems I have with it.

I had this same problem with the wireless keyboard, and brand new duracells would not let me connect. I only wasted an hour or so of diagnostics before I found the duracell vs. energizer post!!!    Because I happen to have 3 young kids and I burn through AAA batteries like HP burns through executives (well, a little slower) I decided to go buy energizers and see if they worked...and they DO!   I think I know why....the energizer has a very slightly larger/longer positive node on the end...and if you look at the positive "spring" on the wireless keyboard you will see it is completely flat and sits in a plastic cradle.  I'll bet those duracells weren't quite touching that flat spring.

So if you don't want to pop in the energizers, get an exacto knife out and try stretching that spring out a bit so it makes a firmer contact.

I have been having trouble with both wireless keyboard and mouse. The computer responds to mouse only part of the time and the keyboard drops many letters. The comp sometimes refuses to awaken from sleep with mouse also.
