Issue with Wireless Optical Mouse and Keyboard Not Connecting (HP Touchsmart IQ770)

Hi all!  I am having an issue I am hoping someone can help me with.  Last night I was backing up my desktop with an external hard drive and went to bed.  The next day when I went to get on the computer it was on the login screen (I have it passworded).  That is not unusual as usually overnight it downloads windows updates, installs them and reboots.  I noticed both the mouse and keyboard were not working and though unusual I figured I would just resync them and go about my business.  When I held the "Connect" button down the connect light never lit up as it is supposed to.  After many efforts I finally just used the onscreen keyboard to log in and tried several things.  The device manager showed everything was working correctly (as I was concerned whatever cause the reboot may have created a conflict) and I even downloaded some drivers and software off of the HP site in case a driver or whatever was lost for the connect function to work.  I have no idea what the issue could be and have no idea what else to try.  I am hoping you all may have some suggestions and/or may have experienced this before.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you all for your time.

Re: Issue with Wireless Optical Mouse and Keyboard Not Connecting (HP Touchsmart IQ770)

Thank you for your input, however the keyboard and mouse are not the problem.  Not only do both light up during the syncing process but I have tried new batteries.  The issue is clearly with the PC.  Ever since the update the connect light on the PC itself will not turn on no matter how long I hold down the "Connect" button.  Any other ideas?

Re: Issue with Wireless Optical Mouse and Keyboard Not Connecting (HP Touchsmart IQ770)

Hi Elmo,

I have just bought an HP IQ820 and I have similar issues with the keyboard. The mouse works fine. The keyboard works for a short while when I re-insert the batteries and can log on but after a minute or so the keyboard has lost connectivity! Did you get any resolve with your own similar issue??

Cheers

Re: Issue with Wireless Optical Mouse and Keyboard Not Connecting (HP Touchsmart IQ770)

Hello,

There is a pretty good document on HP.com about syncing the keyboard/mouse for the IQ770 and for the IQ500.

I know my biggest problem was with the "10 seconds".  I've found that I have to hold the sync button a little longer than that and it works!

Re: Issue with Wireless Optical Mouse and Keyboard Not Connecting (HP Touchsmart IQ770)

Hi Chris,

Thanks for that. Yes, I have that too but haven't had any luck with it. I thought I'd solved it last night where I followed another thread suggestion to copy some 'usbstore.inf' folders to a different location. Thought it had worked because my keyboard was fine for about 2 minutes instead of the usual 30 seconds! The USB dongle light stayed on and all the time it was on the keyboard worked, but then it stopped!!!@*/=#^!!

I rang HP yesterday and explained the situation and their response was the keyboard was deffective and would send me another one. I'm not convinced though!

Thanks for your help.

Cheers

Martin

Re: Issue with Wireless Optical Mouse and Keyboard Not Connecting (HP Touchsmart IQ770)

Thank you to all who have responded.  Unfortunately, my issue still persists.  Since the "Connect" hardware is built into the computer in my model, not a dongle like in some of the older models, I cannot check/mess with the hardware.  I suppose it may be time to take it in to have the hardware checked out.  Sigh.

Re: Issue with Wireless Optical Mouse and Keyboard Not Connecting (HP Touchsmart IQ770)

OK. Based on what I read, it sounds like the keyboard was working fine until a software update was installed (automatically - either through HP Update or through Microsoft Windows Upadte).

Has anyone tried to use Microsoft System restore to go back to a time when it was working good? If that works, you may want to disable HP Updates or Microsoft Automatic Updates and get your updates from HP and MS Web sites manually or until you find which update caused the problem (probalby something related to USB).

Elmo - yeh, your reciever is build into the inside front of the case but it is still connected via USB (to a header on the mobo).

Re: Issue with Wireless Optical Mouse and Keyboard Not Connecting (HP Touchsmart IQ770)

To try one last ditch effort I formatted the hard drive and reinstalled vista using the restoration disks.  The keyboard and mouse still will not sync so I believe it has to be hardware related (though I have no clue what could have happened).  I will be taking it in the "shop" this week and will let you all know what they determine the problem to be.

Re: Issue with Wireless Optical Mouse and Keyboard Not Connecting (HP Touchsmart IQ770)

Hi. I am not surprised that you are having problems with your wireless keyboard not working. I bought an IQ770a 14 months ago. The keyboard (or should I say Keyboards) have never worked properly.First they told to change the batteries which didn't work. Then they sent me another wireless keyboard and mouse. This also missed letters and doubled letters. Then they sent me a plug in keyboard that didn't fit any port on the machine. Then they sent me a connecter. This keyboard worked for a while. Then they sent me a wire less keyboard with a USB stick. This worked for about 9 months and totally stopped working.I got the old lpugin one out. This worked for 2 weeks and then was dead sometimes and worked sometimes. My computer was sent in for repair and I was told that it was my fault for using a keyboard with a USB stick as the internal thing would work if I didn't have a USB one interferring with the signal!!!. They sent my computer bback with the same keyboard and the USB stick wrapped in paper and a not not to use it.Then they supposedly replaced the thing in the computer that communicates witth the wireless key board. The problem is that when a tech turns it on and types a couple of words, it works. The longer you type the more missing or doubled letters you get.I went back aand said that the same problem was happening.HP rang to say they were sending me another keyboard!!!! and that it would all be fixed. I exploded! I don't want another keyboard. I don't want something replaced inside it. I WANT A NEW COMPUTER THAT WORKS. I have spent hours and hours since I bought this ABSOLUTELY USELESS PIECE OF **bleep**!! and still do not have a solution. Neither Domayne, HP or Extended Warranty have helped. There is a "No Lemon" clause in the Extended Warranty contract. However is is very hard to get them to recognise a LEMON. You have to have that same problem 3 times. BUT they don't count any of the times the problem occurred under the HP warranty. NOW they are saying that because it is a fault with the model, it can't be covered under extended warranty! MY ADVICE IS DON'T ACCEPT THE "WE'LL SEND ANOTHER KEYBOARD" **bleep**, BECAUSE AT SOME POINT THEY  WILL STOP WORKING PROPERLY TOO!! HERE IIS A SAMPLE OF WHAT i HAVE HAD TO PUT UP WITH...NOT BAD FOR A $3600.00 COMPUTER!!!!There has been anotheeratteptt o ffiix my compute keyboa. It iss stil not working prerly.
