You should  have a display menu button to adjust brightness/contrast:

I have a model HP520-1020 and there are no controls on the outside of the monitor.

You should be able to adjust using your Intel Graphics control center. Go into Control Panel, click on Personalization to open and look for your Intel app.

Took me ages to find out! My monitor has no screen adjustment buttons as shown in the manual. In the end this is what I did; Go to start, in search box type "HP my display" A box at the top of the start screen appears saying "HP My Diaplay Touchsmart Edition" Click that and Bingo!

Just got the new HP 520 touch screen (April 21st 2012).  After much research this is what worked for me: click Start (in the very left low corner of the screen), int the bottom of the search window type in display, click on: HP My Display Touch Smart Edition listed on the top of the window. click adjust and there it is.  It's an excellent computer, I hope HP will make the Brightness adjustment more intuitive in the future.

To adjust  brightness setting on the HP520

Go to Start

Control Panel

Type in 'power options'

you get a screen that says select power plan

Scroll to bottem of that screen  and there will be a adjust brightness slide feature.

Love my touchsmart but the screen on the brightest setting will burn holes in your eyes, its AWFUL!  Id rather stare at the sun for an hour.
