Re: Keyboard light not working on HP G72t laptop

Could someone help me with the correct Keyboard selection in Windows-7 HPE Control Panel?

I have 2 keyboards listed in my Control Panel keyboard hardware; MID Keyboard Device and Standard PS/2 Keyboard. My default keyboard is the MID Keyboard Device.

Could this be the problem causing my keyboard lights not to illuminate by having the MID Keyboard Device as the default keyboard?

Thanks, Paul

Re: Keyboard light not working on HP G72t laptop

I see you are now able to get into you control panel...my TS-pc is is Vista...my work laptop is windows 7 and is not a TS..after clicking onto control panel I click onto hardware and sound and then devices and printers is at the top and then click onto device manager and then I click onto keyboards and my laptop shows  "standard ps/2 keyboard"...again my laptop is not touchsmart....my TS home pc/vista keyboard in device manager shows Microsoft eHome Remoote Control Keyboard and in it's properties it shows location:  on Microsoft eHome Infrared Transceiver...so I would say that is my wireless keyboard...also it shows Microsoft eHome MCIR Keyboard which it's location is the same as the one above.....

because my w7 laptop is not TS then I don't have the ambient light in my control panel like I have in my vista ts/pc...were you able to find the ambient light in you control panel.....sorry I can't help you more I think because my TS is Vista and not W7...hope someone else with W7 can jump into this to help...

Re: Keyboard light not working on HP G72t laptop

sorry I couldn't help....one thing I've learnt with pc's is that if something quits working or works differently after updates and especially driver updates I then revert back to the driver I updated to the previous one or un-install the update that I think may have caused it and then all is fine...with my TS pc which is vista the drivers for my video card have screwed with my brightness for my desktop/screen...as well in the past going to the next IE version screwed up my roxoi software I now stay at IE8 because my roxio creator 10 works with it and I won't bother trying IE9 because every thing works ok now so I won't bother to change...as well my pc, and I'd think as well as yours is 64 bit...I use the 32 bit version of IE8 because the 64 bit screws up some of the features of my Norton 360 version 5 and I don't believe Norton has yet made everything compatible for the 64 bit version...hope you soon get a resolution.

Re: Keyboard light not working on HP G72t laptop

Happy  New Year. The HP laptop support group says I may have a defective keyboard. My keyboard works fine all  the functions keys work and caps lock, etc.

Do you think a system restore may help to bring back laptop back to the time when the lights were working fine?

Thanks, Paul

Re: Keyboard light not working on HP G72t laptop

It's worth a try and if it doesn't work to fix the problem you can reverse the restore...in the past I have had things fixed doing a restore.

Re: Keyboard light not working on HP G72t laptop

Thanks for the feedback. If the restore functions corrects the problem, do I have to reverse the the system restore to keep all the updates from Windows and HP?

By correcting one problem may cause another by not having an updated driver or software?

PS: I removed the USB hub with the joystick, game controller, etc., and the problem still exists.

Thanks, Paul

Re: Keyboard light not working on HP G72t laptop

if all works out doing the restore then all you have to do is go to updates and update them them if there are any to update...and if all is ok after the restore and you do updates check each update to see what it is for and if any have anything to do with your trouble don't install it.
