Re: New stuff in TouchSmart?

Hey Chris...is there a known problem with the Touchsmart hardware?  Mine has failed twice, the second time was only three weeks after it was fixed the first time.  Do I have a lemon?  My hard drive failed and I have had to do at least three system recoveries.

A Big Big Reminder that music, photos and media on network storage is a really essential feature to add into touchsmart software. Please get on it Hp

Re: New stuff in TouchSmart?

I actually used this page: http://www.hp.com/hpinfo/execteam/email/hurd/index.html to contact HP about this very issue. I suggest that you and others interested in this issue do the same. Here's the email I sent:

Dear Mr. Hurd:

I hope this feedback makes it to your product development managers (or similar) for the TouchSmart series of desktops.

Over the past several years, my husband and I (both with a degrees in Electrical Engineering) have been using HP computers at home. We currently have several different models, including an EX490 HP MediaSmart Server that we love and my own recently purchased TouchSmart 600xt. We are extremely satisfied and repeat customers of HP.

Imagine my surprise and disappointment when I discovered that there's no way for the media (photos, music, and video) TouchSmart applications to access content from the MediaSmart server because the TouchSmart applications don't properly "see" shared folders on a network the same way they see local content.

There are a couple of work-arounds available but they don't allow for some of the other features that are included in the TouchSmart applications (such as the nifty "fan" display to browse one's content).

When I contacted technical support, they were courteous but could only suggest that I copy from the server to the TouchSmart any content I wanted to access properly. This of course defeats the primary purpose of the MediaSmart server (centralizing media files).

I can't imagine the reasoning behind not providing this level of functionality in the TouchSmart apps which are otherwise very fun, easy, and just downright cool to use. I sincerely hope that an updated version of the software is in the plans and that it will include this functionality moving forward.

Thank you your time.

Sincerely,

[name, city, state omitted]

In addition to the automated email I received, the next business day I had a voicemail from HP where they gave me the case number for this issue so hopefully this will be addressed in the (near!) future.
