An analyst discusses tech stocks and has this to say about Seagate.
I lost my Seagate HDD after 3 weeks of owning my IQ804T.
I'm still pissed at that!

"One likelihood for a number of companies are simple screw-ups, which in this market are not tolerated.
Seagate Technology is wide of the mark because of quality-control problems and some sort of defect blowing up its drives to an extreme. Unlike most tech stocks, Seagate is currently below its Nov. 21 price and in serious trouble."

hey there,
your drive might not be lost. the data is probably still ALL THERE!
i had the same thing happen to me. now, after weeks and countless hours of research, i have discovered the problem.
it is a firmware issue with the Seagate 7200.11 Barracuda drives. if you have an OEM drive in your PC (the firmware code will start with HP, like HP24), you need to wait until HP releases the firmware update.
if your drive is NOT an OEM drive (firmware code is SD15 or similar), you can go to the seagate site and download the firmware update.
try this before sending your drive in. HP will merely give you a new one.

No chance to do that.
Part of the deal with HP and the onsite repair was that the tech took the dead drive with him.
If not, I would be billed $600.00 for the drive.
Go figure.

have you had any issues with the replacement?
I heard someone else had their TouchSmart die on them again, even though they had a Hitachi Deskstar in their machine.
what kind of drive is in now?
