The Pre-installed MS Office 2010 Starter Pack

I can't get my MS Office Pro Plus 2010 to install properly and recognise my files because of the pre-installed MS Office 2010 starter pack. Do I have to uninstall the starter pack and then reinstall my legitimate copy before it will work and recognise all my historical Office files?

Re: The Pre-installed MS Office 2010 Starter Pack

Please refer to the information at this Microsoft ANSWERS webpage. It appears that you can uninstall Starter now and repair the Pro install but your mileage may vary.

Re: The Pre-installed MS Office 2010 Starter Pack

Thanks Frank... Its exactly what I ended up by doing. The outcome is the historical MS Office files are all now recognised, but, you lose the nice menu controls from the Start Menu. Otherwise all of the other functions of all MS Office Pro + seem to fully functional. To be honest what would've been best is that HP and MS put afunction in the Starter Pack that allows the client to select their own version or the Starter Pack and selecting/installing your own version it permits the install process to overwrite the install pack and its default controls without sacrificing the Start Menu functionality... Thank for you answer...

Re: The Pre-installed MS Office 2010 Starter Pack

What "nice menu controls on the start menu" are missing?

There's no difference between a starter install and a retail install.

Are you sure you just don't need to "pin" the items in question to the start menu? Pin is in quotes because it's a specific action for the start menu process.

Re: The Pre-installed MS Office 2010 Starter Pack

This new HP Touchsmart PC came with a very nice MS Office icon in the start menu that when you selected it, it presented a sub-menu of all the MS Office Apps that were installed and available for launching. When you uninstall the MS Office 2010 Starter Pack you lose this icon and sub-menu launch function.

After installing your own version of MS Office, you are left with the usual MS Office Folder icon which when selected presents all the icons for for the MS Office applications as per usual. No Problems...

To lose the very nice MS Office icon from the Start Menu is not a major issue.  It's just a matter of personal preference that in my opinion it was more visually appealing than the typical old MS Office Folder view...
